So, I have been working for a family-owned commercial painting company for the last 13 years as a Project Manager. The current owner is retiring at the end of this year and my soon to be business partner and I are going to be buying him out!
One of us had to have a contractor license to take over the company, and it was decided since I was the younger of the two in the buyout it would be best for me to get the license under my name. That way we won't have to worry about changing over licenses when my business partner decides it his time to step away (which won't be for about 10 years).
Yesterday I officially became a painting contractor by passing my business law and my classification state tests!
So as of 1/1/2026 I will be 50% owner of the company! Very exciting, and scary at the same time.
