My in-laws are in town and that is generally no too bad. Of course they take the day to spoil my kids and take us to dinner.

Sunday night I find out that my father-in-law smokes cigars. So I take him outside and give him a selection to choose from. He lights up and is very appreciative of the fine cigar. We get to talking and he says something I find odd. He says he looked inthe humi and it was a little on the dry side. It was but only a bit at 60%. He says his humi is around 85%! He actually told me he soaks the inside of the humi with distilled water too! Well I politely try to educate him but let it go.

So now its Monday evening and I come home from work and he is outside on my patio smoking. I ask if he was able to find something he liked in the humi (I reall did not care if he helped himself) and he replied that he actually went to the liquor store and bought some ciars. That is when I notice the box on the table and get a whiff of the gawd awful stench . . . he bought a box of Swisher Sweets! :0

I have never had these and never been around them while there were beig smoked. Cripes those stink. What is worse is he mentioned a couple of times how good they were!!!

So after dinner I get him a Gurkha Legend which has been aging nicely. Of course he said he loved it and we had pleasant conversation on the patio with some scotch and GOOD cigars.

Today they are heading up to Hot August Nights in Reno NV so I offered to send him with a care package of cigars since the prices will be outrageous up there. He declined and said he still has the Swishers and can buy more in Reno ??? What can ou do . . . some people are beyond help

one of my first cigars was a swisher... and even then they tasted so terrible... so inorganic... bleh!

To each his own...

Well look at the bright side. he didnt try to get your humidor upto 85%. Thats what I first thought this was leading too.

heh I dunno a charry swisher aint band when your sloshed and want a smoke or trying to sober up a little.

Now I think I have heard everything; "aging Swisher Sweets in a humidor..."
Well, to each his own.

There is a guy on post who I always see smoking cigars we chat once in a while. One day I offered him a rp 1990 he took one look at it and said no thanks I only smoke white owls. I was stunned tried everything to talk him into trying it no way said he has smoked them for 25 years and he is not changeing now.

You know I hate to even say it but the people that smoke foul flavored cigars are the reason we are able to smoke the the good stuff! Those nasty things pay the rent at alot of B&Ms including ours. They out sell the good stuff 3 to 1. The only thing I can do is to try to educate my customers and move them off of the candy crap! It's like some one who smokes Macanudos, if they are hardcore about Macs they will not smoke anything else! I agree with to each his own but GAWDDAMN!!!!! Those are so bland! I rather smoke... well you get the idea!

...just make sure he doesn't "do you a favor" and hose down the inside of your humi to get you up to the "required" 80+% RH....!!!... :0

Yeah....Swishers....eech....

Best Regards - B.B.S.

Thanks for sharing the funy story. Glad to hear it had a happy ending. :D My father-in-law only smokes cigarettes so I don't think I we'll be having that moment. My dad does smoke cigars though. He just got back from two months in Hong Kong. One of the cigars he smoked was a PSD1 EL.

Wilkey

I went golfing with my father in law this past weekend. One of his friends at the Club gave him a AF Hemingway classic. I had a VSG and we hit some holes and had a nice time. His Hemingway was extremely dried out...the guy who gifted it to him probably left it in his car, but my f-i-l smoked that sucker to the nub with it falling apart!
He typically smokes the JR Alts and I try to give him some from time to time, but he normally declines. I'm thinking that he is just used to his brand, or maybe there is a pride thing there...maybe something similar in your case. Nevertheless, we have a good visit with the cigars we each enjoy! :)
