What is the oldest cigar you have smoked? I recently came across some cigars for sale from the '70s, so I thought I would ask.

I had an early 80's RyJ Churchill for my birthday in August. Amazing smoke. Definately one I will not soon forget.

Nothing really old, I guess if you believe all the hype on the Rocky Patel 1990 and 1992 you'd be smoking a pretty aged cigar. I also smoked a Pinar which is supposed to be from 1958, but who knows on that one. The Padron 1926 are aged 5 years + maybe another year or 2 by the time it reaches you.

The oldest cuban I have is a mid 04 box code. It tastes pretty good, I try to age everything I have at least 6-12 months, although I'm buying some cabs of 50 just so I can put them back for longer, maybe 2-3 years. I'm also going to try to buy a box every week or 2 and put them to sleep for a while.

Buying cigars of any considerable age is dicey unless said source has had possesion for said amount of time.

What if the box in question was out of ideal storage for a considerable amount of time? There's a lot to take into account when buying aged stock, so do your homework and ask questions.

I had a mid 70's Monte Dunhill Seleccion #2 on my honeymoon. It came from about as reputable a source as there is, and I am more sure that it was stored properly than I am that I am storing MY cigars properly.
I would be very, very hesitant to buy smokes of this vintage from any but a very, very few select people.
In ISOM stock, I am becoming more and more convinced that longer aging time than most people in North america choose to allow is neccesary (for my tastes). There are, without a doubt, a number of cigars that smoke very well young, but even those benefit greatly with some age.

Oldest smoked was a 1920's something or another. While an interseting experience, it tasted like my kid's feet after a day of playing the dirt. I've had some others from the 40's-50's too, which were a much more enjoyable experience. LOL!

Oldest for me came compliments of a very generous BOTL...a 1995 Opus X Reserva d'Chateau. One from 1996 received a 97 from CA recently...I think the reviewer got a dud.

The oldest cigers I have smoked to date are Sancho Panza Non Plus box date 1998.

They are pretty good and still have three left.

That happened just this past weekend at Casa de BBS!!

A Montecristo Especial '97. Very nice! And a El Rey Del Mundo Demi-Tasse '90. Not too bad.

Macanudo Vintage Cabinet 1984 III. Enjoyed immensely.

I have some Macanudo Vin 88's, 93's, and 97's but I haven't opened them yet.

Has anybody smoked any of these (besides the 97's)? I'd be curious to hear how those years turned out for others. I've heard differing opinions on how long to let cigars age, that they peak after a certain amount of time.

Ted

Those Grisels are some of the best morning smokes!! I have one left from a couple of bundles I had bought over time.
