Opus X on sale for CigarPass members only!

I hope all of you that do not support gougers don't buy from Cigars International. They gouge in subtle ways. Take for example their sister site. Same address, and same products.

Just take a look at CI's Opus prices. And yes, it is CI, unless both companies reside from the same address. And sell Rocky OSG, and 5 Vegas. Sorry but it's true, CI gouges, and they don't have the balls to do it on their main site.

Oh by the way. I'm Ryan, nice to meet you all.

Well, that is something I didn't know! I wouldn't buy from cigar.com if they had the last opus on earth for $1 each. They are the worlds' biggest rip off! I've only ordered from CI once or twice, but never again.

Thanks Ryan.

Don't forget to add Cigarbid.com to that list then. They also reside at that address.

You keep me on my feet for sure! I have decided to sell my Opus X inventory only to CigarPass members for retail, today only. Choose your cigars and check them out, at checkout in the "special comments" section enter your CigarPass Id and I will adjust the price to retail when I process the order.

If you guys ever need some Opus X at retail, I will gladly hook you up with a few at retail. Keep in mind though, I get 5 cigars at time sometimes. So, there is not too many to go around.

Thanks.

First, this post should be in the retailer's section, it has no place here.

Second, where do you obtain your Opus X cigars from that you acquire them 5 cigars at a time? They certainly can't be coming directly from Fuente Newman

Third, your "regular" prices of Opus X cigars are comically priced. I'm assuming they are priced this way because you're obtaining them at retail price some some other cigar shop/source.

I don't care how many newbies say you offer fantastic service, I can't see myself ever patronizing your establishment. I'm sure others will, though... sadly. Condoning this kind of grey market reselling crap is what keeps prices high, I fail to understand why anyone would think this is a good thing.

Noobs, don't feed the gougers!
and there is no way in heck you are an authorised Fuente dealer....buying 5 at a time, never heard of such a thing.

Also to be fair, Jack Scwartz not only has an Illinois tax on top of their wholesale cost, they also have a Chicago tax that must be collected, even for out of towners......

So how can their other prices be in line and hard to find items like Anejo more than double MSRP? I maybe wrong, but sure seems to me they're looking to gouge, why not keep these smokes for your regular customers and make them happy? Don't get me wrong Matt, i'm not trying to be cross towards you, i'm just a little surprised someone as respectable as Jack Schwartz jumps into the gouging gig, it's sure turned me off to buying anything from them, for whatever that's worth...

I'm pretty sure the Anejo price on there right now is incorrect, since the box and single price are the same and all sizes are the same.

Here is my take. There are a lot of respectable vendors that don't have an Opus account. The only way for them to get Opus is to buy retail, then mark them up accordingly. I don't see a problem with this scenario. I think it was a nice offer by Cigarplace to sell his Opus at MSRP, regardless what he paid.

I do however have a problem w/ authorized dealers marking up Opus at ridiculous %s. This is gouging in my opinion. However, they are a business and still need to make a buck to stay open. I just won't buy from them.

MSRP is just that, "suggested". Don't forget that each state has a tobacco tax, as well as their markup. I think we get spoiled by those vendors who do in fact stay pretty close to MSRP and that's the problem. We tend to judge everyone else based on a few vendors who look out for us as well as their books.

JMHO.

Gator let me clarify something for you as you will be coming to New York and will experience the same thing here as in Chicago. Most of these shops are in high rent districts to start up with and they cannot compete with the pricing you can get from an internet vendor. When you get to NY you can go to Nate Shermans, Davidoff, Barclay Rex and JR's and see their prices and wince. They are not gouging that is the price they pay for doing business in Manhattan. Remember they have to collect the tobacco tax plus sales tax. When your shop is on Fifth Avenue in New York you are paying top dollar for prime retail space that is added into the price of the deal.

Hello, I hate to be going back and forth on this but, I have to defend myself.

First, I have never claimed to be an "authorized dealer", yes you are right, I buy from other retailers at the retail price(which is higher than MSRP in my suppliers case) they sell to the public. That is why my prices are so much higher than MSRP. My customers prefer to pay a markup for an EXTREMELY hard to find cigar than not smoke it at all!

Second, Opus X is a cigar that not everyone can find at the local cigar shop. That is why most brick and mortar cigar shops don't sell them at MSRP themselves, I know for a fact that some respectable cigar shops have to buy there Opus inventory from third parties, just like I do. There is just simply not enough Opus X to go around for every cigar shop in the country, only the oldest most loyal accounts get the most inventory from Newman/Fuente. So, this creates a secondary market, why? Well, some of these loyal, old accounts don't need so much Opus for their regular customers, there are little cigar stores around the country with a "boatload" of Opus X, guess what they do with them? Supply and demand my friends.

Third, I sell the other 99.9% of my inventory at such discounted prices from MSRP that I sleep very well at night, knowing in the bottom of my heart I am not a "gouger".

Finally, I do admit I posted this message wrongly, sorry.

Thanks and happy smoking!

-Julian

Oh I agree, there prices should be higher but that doesn’t necessarily explain why there normal stock is competitively prices and only the hard to find stuff is double. It just seems hard to believe that they need to charge high on only opus and anejo’s to pay the rent. Just my 2 cents.

Besides Atlantic cigars is also TNT cigars, oddly enough TNT is cheaper…

I was speaking with the owner of my local B&M. As this location was recently opened (only 2 years ago) he cannot get any opus or anejo cigars. He asked me what I thought about having opus x cigars which he would have to pay a few dollars over MSRP for in the store. He said he would have to charge about 3-4 dollars over what he had paid to have it make sense to sell these with shipping he pays plus time to acquire these. This would mean about 6-7 dollars over msrp on these cigars. I told him that I perseonally know he is trying to offer a service to his customers, and would understand the markup and would still purchase these. But that online in forums like CP many people frown upon this. I told him I thought his reputation as a retailer could be damaged online or by people who read online forums due to this markup . My advise was that he should not put them out with a price tag but if someone asked for them explain how much he had to pay and that he could let a few go for xxx price. This way he could provide his normal customers with a hard to find product without making some customers mad.

I total agreement with b'freebern.

Cigars are no different from any other goods. It's matter of suppy and demand that sets the price for most goods. Authorized dealers has most of the supplies and they pretty much set the price in how much a certain goods sells for. Cigarplace.biz's prices are reflection of what the market is asking for....a trickle down price. It's good of them (an un-authorized dealer) to even offer or make availalbe the cigars to their customers and nice of them to offer it @ MSRP to us @ CP....probably at a lost.

The variable that most people don't take into effect is what b'freebern has mentioned ....tobacco tax. In Washington state it's 75% of retail cost. A B&M in Bellevue Wa wanted $45 for an opus belicoso..........my tongue almost fell out of my mouth but it sells like hotcakes there. That is why I make most of my purchases on-line.

"We tend to judge everyone else based on a few vendors who look out for us as well as their books."

This is very true. I think sometime we get spoil and expect this out of most vendors. Vendors like Al (thanks Al) are rare where he can offer up generous prices below msrp at special times.

The bottom line for me is ......If the prices are too high I simply just don't buy.....and if enough people don't buy the prices will go down. The demand for opus x's are high and high prices are expected.....at least for me.

IMHO

edited for spelling...i'm sure i didn't catch all of them

No offense to Moki (you are my hero  ), but I find it funny that now that he's stated his opinion, near everyone jumps on the bandwagon.

What band wagon are you referring? I didn't even read Mokis thread when I posted my opinion.

my comments contradicts Moki\'s. All opinions respected

I guess I read the thread a little quickly, but it just seemed to me that before Moki (who is highly respected) posted in this thread, most of the people were supporting this gouger, and after he posted, there seem to be a lot more people stating that they don\'t agree with what this vendro is doing. Maybe I\'m reading too deeply into something...just IMO.

edit: after re-reading it it appears your comments contradict what he was saying(and what I though they were saying). I guess blame it on reading before my cup of coffee. :p

Reading comprehension is a lost talent.

I don't understand where your going with this. It looks to me like he still has the same stance on this issue.
