Went to my local yesterday to sit down and have a smoke. I was suprised to see that they had just gotten in a box of Opus Petite Lanceros with a two a day limit.

They were told the same story of production issues. They got two boxes, with the promise of two more in November...................Sucks!!!!!


Anyways, I smoked my first Opus PL, and what a nice flavorful smoke this 2007 release is. It did show it's youth towards the very end of the smoke, by becoming a little harsh. I think these will really be something with a few months, or a year on them.

Anyone else have any experience with the recent production PL's?
 
If you can get more. I would beinterested. These are by far my favorite Opus. I couls also trade Opus for a couple. Your call.
 
how much were these at your B&M? they were charging a insane 17 bucks at mine... i think the msrp is like 12 or 13

I think you are right on the money with this John. Recently I smoked one from the fresh 2007 production as well as one from 2005 and the difference was night and day. The flavors of the 2007 were much more in your face and like you said eventually harsh towards the end. The aged stick was a bit more mellow although it still had the pronounced opus flavors we all love, just much more balanced and enjoyable. I liken it to a really big hoppy beer. Fresh they are bold and you can taste each individual flavor but as they age they mellow and the flavors start to blend together and create a harmony that is much different and many times better.

These were $14.50. They are pretty much MSRP on everything else, so I did not give him too much grief over it. I'm not sure what it is really supposed to be on this.

Edit to add: Wow! Went and looked it up in a thread by MMM, and MSRP is $10.00 on these. I was thinking like $11.50 or $12.00. :angry: Wait until I see Bill @ Leesburg C&P today.

I had what I'm guessing was a recent production PL a couple months ago, and I loved it. I didn't mind the in-your-faceness of it. But, I didn't notice any harshness. I posted this pic when I smoked it, but here it is again.

Unless, by "towards the very end" you mean further down than this...

Nope! Harshness kicked in at the 1/3 left mark. Was not too terrible, but not as near enjoyable as the first 2/3'rds.

I know what month it is you Schmo. :laugh:
