Is the vintage of opus x cigars the date that is on the top of the box or do all boxes have the same date on them? I just bought out a bunch of power rangers and belicosos and robustos that have the date 1992 on the box( I made the offer to buy the rest of each box if the box was included and he took it), if that is the date these are well aged opus x cigars. :D

The 1992 date is the date that the Opus X was first born -- the first crop of tobacco from the "seeds of hope" -- it's on every box.

They didn't start selling Opus X cigars to customers until late 1995.

The cigars you got are absolutely not from 1992. They are probably a pretty recent shipment (2004?) given how quickly Opus X's sell out. They are certainly not more than 5 years old, because the xXx vitola didn't exist prior to 1999.

That is what I figured Moki, but I will say they arent 2004 but they may be 2003 I first saw them in about april 2003 and he just wasnt selling them I waited and waited before I made him the offer. They had dust on them if you can believe it.

Really??? Didn't know quality has gone down on them :( . Hope they keep up quality on the Anejo's ??? Anyone else got an opinion on this?

The "quality" is not down, per se. In my opinion they are shipping them too wet and it is really affecting the flavor/burn. I have not had a whole lot of them, but the last few I have had we unsmokable. I ended up putting them down less than halfway through. I even tried drying one out a bit before smoking it. The wrapper was just too damp and the filler was worse. And, while I have respect for the Fuente products as a whole, I just find that these are not up to par compared to earlier releases.

Do you mean the recent 2004 releases, or prior to that? The 2004 releases I've had thus far have been most excellent.

Stuff I've popped into a local shop and bought in the last year. So, both 2003 and 2004. Add to the equation that he doesn't even keep them in the walk-in, instead on the shelf behind the counter. Maybe I'm just not into that taste anymore. I'd much rather have an 858 SG, if I'm going to smoke a Dominican cigar.
