Growing too fast.
Ah yes, no better way to spend a cool Labor Day afternoon than a couple hours smoking a Partagas Lusi. This is one incredible looking cigar with impeccable construction from the bunching in the foot to the gorgeous triple cap on top. I can see a slight oiliness in the medium brown, almost rosado shade wrapper that is actually quite smooth although there are several small veins. It feels rather light considering the size of the cigar, is very firm when squeezed, and with the cap opened up I get an almost perfect draw, maybe a hair overly resistant, with good, straightforward tobacco taste.
Oh the aroma coming from the foot as I put the torch to it, sweet Cuban smoke…simply awesome. I take a few puffs and then a long draw getting an abundance of medium bodied smoke through with a white pepper spice on the throat. Delicious Partagas flavors coat the palate, that of toasted nuts, vanilla, and citrus zest with just a twinge of cinnamon.
The burn is sharp with a medium to light gray ash forming that seems a bit loose, so I go ahead and ash at about an inch in. I still find the draw with a little too much resistance, however more than enough rich smoke is flowing through. Flavors remain consistent with the white pepper spice continuing to hit the throat and a finish that is superb, lasting long after exhaling.
I get to the halfway mark before I know it, enjoying this cigar so much I’m taking draws more than I usually would. The burn continues to be sharp with flavors coming through simply fantastic. My wife comes out with the baby girl, however the wind is blowing a little too hard and they head back in after only a few minutes. It’s nap time anyway.
Heading into the final third, the Lusi performs perfectly with the smoke taking on a more full body with spice picking up slightly as well. Flavors take on somewhat darker notes and a charred wood taste comes through in the finish. There’s a bit of tar building, so I clip off a small amount and continue on enjoying the rich, delicious tobacco. I’ve enjoyed several Lusitanias and have to say all were excellent, this one being no exception. Thoroughly enjoyed this cigar!
