:( I sent it out on Monday so if it's not there tomorrow I'm going to be worried. I guess the lady at the P.O. was wrong about the tracking with insurance or maybe I just haven't figured out how to do it.
 
Okay... a PM has already been sent to gatorsmg regarding this.

Here we go. The insurance number CAN be used to track the package... just not via usps.com. They can do it for you manually at your local PO. Since it's Friday and I still haven't gotten it, I went to the PO to do just that. They said the package arrived in Austin last night and went out for delivery today.

Because it was insured, it had to be signed for and it was... by a person named "Smart"... at the offices of DELL COMPUTERS located a few blocks from here. :angry: :angry: :angry:

What the hell. I busted their asses and they're going to try to get the package to me ASAP. But since today is pretty much awash and tomorrow being Saturday, this may not be resolved until at the earliest, Monday of next week. :angry: :angry: :angry:

Damn PO people.

Good thing it ended up close by Michael's place instead of the wrong city all together. I hope this didn't happen because I messed up the addy ???

It sounds like it would have been a lot easier if there was a Delivery Conformation to track with instead of having to go to the PO to do it. I was under the impression it could be done online (the ladies at the PO neglected to mention that part). We should probably use a DC# along with the insurance from here on out (live and learn).

Hopefully this will all get worked out soon and we can get back on track :D

Something like this happened to me when I sent a package via UPS... let's just say I'm glad I insured it, because the package was never found again. I hope this doesn't happen here, good luck phishy.
 
Update... sort of.

The PO guys have been pretty helpful doing everything they can to get the package back... just short of actually getting the package back. Of all the damn places they could've sent it to, it happened to be Dell Computers RECEIVING WAREHOUSE. On Friday alone (the day the box arrived), Dell received 12,000 packages. :0

What they're doing now is going through their inventory to locate this ONE package. Ideally, it shouldn't be that hard to locate. It's probably the ONLY package in the entire warehouse that is NOT addressed to Dell. Then again, with 12,000 packages a midst an entire warehouse full... the cliche "needle in a haystack" has never been more appropriate.

PO guy just called me. Apparently, any package sent to the Dell Warehouse that is NOT addressed to Dell gets sent off to one of their processing plants across the state. That means the package is no longer at the Dell Warehouse (or in Austin, for that matter).

Once it reaches its new destination, it will be determined that it is NOT a Dell package (NO F*CKING SH*T) and it should be returned to the destination PO, which is the Austin location. However, there's also a chance that the initial processing plant that receives this package will turn around and ship it off to ANOTHER processing plant in the state, and thus playing ping pong with the package.

There is NO telling how long this will take. F*cking incompetent PO people (and Dell people, for that matter).

gatorsmg, I'm REALLY sorry this happened. The PO guy says we can either keep waiting (who knows what the contents will look like when this is finally resolved) or file the claim. If you file the claim, two things will happen.

1. You WILL get the full amount it was insured for, no questions asked. At least given the circumstances, they CAN'T weasel their way out of blame.

2. The package, when found, will be destroyed, if it hasn't been already.

This f*cking sucks.

As you can tell, the PO person responsible for this is both dyslexic AND illiterate. Instead of being a mere mile away from me... the package is now hundreds of miles away. :sneaky:
 
Sorry to hear about the mix up :( At least you did get $250 insurance on it. What you do is up to you but I think I would take the claim and get a box of habanos but that is just me. You had a great line up and it would be a loss. Good luck either way I'm hoping the best for you.

I guess the first pass that I've started is going to be a bust. I'll see what happens tomorrow and then go to the PO on Thursday to make the insurance claim (or do I do that online?).

Let this be encouragement for everyone to insure valuable packages. Ric and I figured out the actual value of the box while at the shop today and it came out to approximately $300 so at least I guessed it pretty close.

Considering that it's already been over a week since I mailed the box out and not knowing what kind of conditions (temperature etc.) it has been subjected to, the cigars are probably in bad shape now. Unfortunately my remaining inventory doesn't allow me to restart the pass so I will probably have to cancel pending the events over the next couple of days.
Sorry to the pass members, hopefully we can try this again in the not too distant future ??? .
 
After talking to Vewyphishy I've realized that it's probably a good idea to wait a little longer to see if the box will turn up.

I would rather get the cigars back and continue with the pass then get the insurance money anyway. Hopefully being sealed in a tupperware right out of my humidors and the fact that most of the country has had cool weather lately, the cigars will be OK.

Sit tight guys...hopefully we'll have this figured out one way or the other by early next week.
 
It just got warm again today. It was actually quite cold and even humid this weekend. Assuming we get the package back by week's end... it should still be in decent condition.

Let's hope for the best. In the worst case scenario hopefully we can help stock you back up and make up for the loss.
 
fuuuuuuuuuuuck...what a bunch of crap. hypothetically, what happens if the cigars show up in less than desirable shape? do you get a partial claim?

Good question

I think they would owe me the entire amount of the insurance. They failed to deliver the package on time or to the right place for that matter. If I got the cigars back as damaged I would still be out a box full of cigars and it would be soley their fault.

I hope that's how it would go down anyway ???

Was the package stamped as perisable? If the package ends up at it's intended destination I think you will be out of luck if they are damaged

i know, but they still might be smokable, or perhaps in need of rehumidification. i guess the question is...is the only way to get the 250 to have them destroyed?

If the cigars do arrive here, then claiming insurance for any reason becomes a difficult task. Not impossible, but the USPS can and will utilize any loophole to shank on paying the claim.

Basically, if it arrives late and in poor condition, you live and learn... move on.
