Hillbilly Steaks
Dr. BBQ
So the wife and I celebrated our 1st Wedding Annivesary this weekend. We were unsure as to what we wanted to do and my wife came across the Ad for the Blue Ridge BBQ Festival. So we booked a room at a bed and breakfast there a while back and headed for the mountains this weekend. It was a nice relaxing weekend filled with cigars, a GREAT bottle of wine, some not so impressive BBQ, and good time away from everything.
Without going into great detail, I started the weekend Friday night with a bottle of wine I've been saving for a special occasion. Our very own Orangeman sent me a bottle of 1992 Caymus Special Select during the WAR and I promised him I would do my best to enjoy it properly. Well Nick, the bottle was FANTASTIC! I opened it right away when we got there Friday night and let it sit for about an hour, then we poured a glass. I will give a better review of the wine a different time, but it was EXCELLENT! a couple pics
The wine took up most of our night on Friday. We took our time and enjoyed every last little bit of it.
Saturday we decided to get out for a bit and go see the Persimmons Waterfall. Its a 90 ft. water fall pretty close to where we stayed. I coul hang out here all day.
Well, I had more pictures I wanted to post, but my upload site is not working so these will have to do for now.
Saturday evening we went to the BBQ festival. This is something that I have been wanting to do for quite some time now. Mainly because I wanted a chance to compare my BBQ to all these other guys that travel the country Making $$$ doing so. Well, lets just say we were not very impressed. We tried one place first (won't be naming names) but it was one that is nationally known and has won LOTS of contests. They were good, but really nothing special. Then later on we tried another place. Similar credentials....one word, SHITTY! We both just looked at each other in disbelief. Very bland flavor, and under cooked. Now one thing I was trying to keep in mind is that I know these guys are selling a lot to the general public, so its not going to be their absolute best. But damn, the second ones we had weren't worth a shit. So needless to say, I'm really looking forward to competeing. First Rib contest is next month.
Finished off last night with a Padron 1926 40th Anniversary Natural. Sat out by the creek and smoked it down to the numb. These are definitely my favorite smokes. Just so damn tasty and consistant from start to finish.
All in all, a great weekend. I'll post more pics later. Thanks for reading!
