Please suggest a 1'st beer

A friend and I are going to a local place to have a drink or two. And I have no idea what to get. I think they have mostly more expencive beers and imports. I have never had a beer before, what are some good begginers?

Boddingtons is indeed excellent. It's like Guinness, less carbonated and more of a creamy beer. Steinlager Pure is a good beginner beer, very crisp. When in doubt, go for a blonde or pale ale rather than a dark beer since you're just beginning.

Good advice..I like Steinlager pure for an everyday beer or something while Im BBQing. I tried for the first time a very enjoyable, easy drinking beer with more flavor than the Steinlager Pure that was called a Duvel.

+2, but I have never had the Duvel. The others are a good drink....
 
Do you have any (or much) experience with other sorts of alcoholic drinks?

If you're starting completely from scratch and your first experiment with alcohol is going to take place in public at a bar, I'd recommend sticking with something with a relatively low percentage of alcohol by volume and fairly light and simple in taste. Maybe Amstel Light, Heineken Light, Corona/Corona Light, etc. You've got plenty of time to become a beer snob, but starting off with some 10% Belgian-style monster probably won't end well.

Also, don't forget your ID--you're probably going to get carded, Doug!

First beer? Schlitz, Blatz, I dunno. :D

Start on the easy ones and go up from there. You could probably save yourself the experience of your macros like Bud, Coors, Miller, etc.

Try a Newcastle. A good english working man's beer. Works for me anyway. You can go lighter or darker from there.
 
Another vote here for Newcastle. It was my first... Then, I found Guinness. It was all downhill from there.
 
Er..first beer...

Bud Ice, Ice House. Pretty much anything with the word "ice" in it, at least that is what all the kids used to drink. Stay away from anything that contains the words "Steel", "Iron", "City", "Reserve", "Camo", and "Malt".

P.S. Try PM'ing TomThirtySix. He stocked-up on cases of Zima before they stopped producing it. He loves to watch reruns of 7th Heaven while enjoying Zima and Jolly Rancher cocktails.

I second to stay away from anything strong in the ABV department. Maybe try a nice pilsner or hefeweizen.

I've had a glass of Merlot and a smirinoff green apple (if that even counts lol). I never forget my ID. lol

A friend of mine suggested Blue Moon, What yall think of that one?
