[Shadow]

This board could use a little spice. What better than a never ending thread of political debate and flame wars? I do expect some level of entertainment here. As a spectator I'd love nothing more than to watch an election topic thread burst into all out kaos. What do I care if you guys piss each other off beyond repair? It would be complete pleasure to watch people destroy relationships on this board over the simple talk of politics. I mean this would be frickin hilarious!!! Damn...the more I think about it...the more I want to see it.

Cigar weekly and other sites have a politics and non-cigars section-I don't see why we couldn't open a thread for those who were interested in discussing that stuff to do so. In looking at CW, I don't see it boiling over into cigar discussions. It's kind of hard to go from talking about robustos to John Edwards on a non-political line of discussion.

If you want to discuss politics then go to CW and the other sites and post in their political sections.

It's nice to come in here and not be bombarded about politics. Check your politics at the door. If you don't like that, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I apologize for my original post and I did not intend to start a flame war. It was the unfortunate result of posting after a day full of Guiness and Captain Morgan's. I withdraw my objection - especially since I had forgotten that I could trun off sigs. I was just getting a little wiped by the sheer volumn of mud slinging here in the States that I don't usually endure when serving overseas. (1 month is more than enough - after growing up in politics, it has become one topic I personally detest) That said I do want to reply to a couple more comment - with the coveat that I am simply going to turn off sigs and call it a day.

Many members post all kinds of personal perferences on these boards from certain alcoholic beverages, certain sports teams, what they like to do with their spare time and so forth. 

These opinions are generally solicited in threads requesting the information.

  If you ask me, the banter in some of those threads gets a heck of a lot more dicey than any political topics

Never said that - contrary actually - it was the sole refuge away from it until all the competing sigs showed up.

Don't want to offend people

Never said you offended me at all - just that I had hoped to avoid politics since it was stated as a no-no in the Board Policies. I doubt there is much of anything anyone on the forum could do to actually offend me.....

Please do not discuss politics on the forum;... political threads will be removed

That's why I joined CP and not the other places - the board policy and seeing the Clinton book thread shot down because of board policy had convinced me that I may have found at least one apolitical refuge.

If my pictures piss people off just pm me

This was never about offesive or upsetting pics - simply a delve into whether the no-politics board policy applied to sigs

Again I apologize for the flame war - it was never intended, nor was my post meant as an attack to anyone espousing their political view.

Okay "disturb" (not easily offended but easily disturbed, right?) and again if anything in anyone's sig tag or avatar disturbs you, then sorry to say but too bad, that's life and I'm glad you got over it.

Gee no kidding. There's a huge difference between "discussing politics on the forum" and having a sig tag or avatar that "disturbs" someone. Can you please explain to me how having a Bush/Cheney image in a sig tag is "discussing politics"?

Good point-but please don't overlook my last sentence on keeping things the way they are. I merely pointed out some options and then came to the conclusion that things were o.k. as is.

Please clarify for me what constitutes this site being Socialist? This IS a private forum in which part of becoming a MEMBER is abiding by the rules as given by the moderators. As was pointed out earlier in this thread, the moderator requests that we do not discuss politics here.

Most normal people can relate to the concept of accepting rules and directives from the moderators. I would compare it to say....a drivers license. If you want to drive here, you have to have a license. It is a privalege, not a right.

Same with this forum, it is a privalege to be able to post here. If you violate the terms of membership, the moderators reserve the right to revoke your privaleges.

Now, if you really want to talk politics, I am quite certain that you could go to the expense and time required to create your OWN board, and discuss politics to your hearts content. Or, simply go to another site which apparently welcomes an open forum to discuss this issue.

So, in conclusion, the issue is not rather some people are offended over talking politics, it is simply that the moderators have requested we not discuss that issue.

I myself have no qualms about discussing politics, but will refrain from it in order to comply with the rules in order to keep my good friends I have met here, none of which I would say are anywhere near to being Socialists.

This board IMHO is devoted to light hearted conversation. If religon and politics are discussed here we might become the "unfriendlist board on the internet."

I respect diversity in beliefs of a political and religous nature and I believe all people here do. Lets not bash each other over things of this nature.
