Growing too fast.
This afternoon was overcast with a cool, strong breeze blowing. Wife got the baby girl to put her down for her afternoon nap, so I decided to go looking for a nice smoke to have out under the ‘ol walnut tree. Digging through the wineadors, I spied my box of loose RE’s and decided on a Por Larranaga Robusto (Asia release). I plucked it from the box and headed out to get comfy.
The sun did come in and out from the clouds and when it did, the oiliness of this stick really shown. Looking dark and rich with a very strong barnyard smell. The wrapper was quite coarse and the stick felt moist, giving a good bit when squeezed (just the way I like it). Decent enough cap, but looked as though someone did it in a hurry, and the foot showed it could possibly be overfilled. Once punched, pre-draw was tight however not plugged. Hopefully once lit the heat would open it up.
After putting fire to the foot, first draw was medium to full and deliciously spicy. No need to have worried about the draw as it was perfect for the strength of the smoke. After a few draws in, the smoke started to settle and I got tastes of old, worn leather with hints of cinnamon spice. Dark, sweet cocoa in the smooth and creamy smoke. Salt on the lips. Delicious! These flavors as well as the medium strength stayed consistent throughout. There was a very strong wind blowing, which wreaked havoc on the burn a time or two. At one point I heard a buzzing and noticed a June bug had somehow gotten stuck on it’s back, so I had to help it out. Got a snap or two of it before it flew off.
At about halfway, I adjourned to the back porch as a small rain cloud loomed over (but quickly went away). I finished the smoke up thoroughly enjoying the dark, rich flavors and excellent long finish. The skies partly cleared, and I got a few snaps of a hummingbird enjoying the feeder before heading in.
