I have what I consider to be two permiums in my humidor. A Graycliff Professional and a Gurkha legend Perfecto. As of right, due to the cost of these damn things, I hesitate to smoke them. THey're more of something to admire for the time being for me. Anyone else out there think along the same lines?
These two gars have been "sleeping" in the humi for about 6 months now adn everytime I think about putting a torch to one, I say to myself "what are you thinking!?!?!"
I'm saving them for something special, but I wonder if something special enough will ever come along.
Oh I don't have access to any isom's which is why I place these on a high pedastel. If I did have a few isom's ....it might be a different story.
 
We've had similar discussions in the past so here's my take:

This situation is kinda like people with show cars who won't drive them, I say DRIVE THEM, cars were meant for driving and cigars were meant for smoking.

So, SMOKE them!!! They can be replaced. ;)
 
Gotta agree with the Cat, smoke'em as there'll be others down the raod just as good or better.
 
:D I could not agree more. I sat on my first few ISOM's for a year before I built up the courage. Take the plunge man! You will not regret it, although your wallet might. LOL :laugh:

Smoke em if you got em! That is the motto we live by. No need in saving them for a special occasion. Make a special occasion by smoking them. :thumbs: my .02!

Smoke then now so you can get rid of them and then you can start trying to obtain real premiums such as:

Padron Anniversary 1964 Maduros, Exlusivos, Diplomaticos, Coronas, Pyramides, Monarcas and Superiors.

Arturo Fuentes Don Carlos Robsto, # 3, # 2 Beli, President, Double Robusto and my personal favorite the Lancero.

Next up are the Diamond Crown line of cigars. The are all 54 ring gauge and are a beautiful Conn Shade wrapper that is sublime


Arturo Fuente Hemingway series, short story, Work of Art, Best seller,Un told story Signature and Classis.

Davidoff Millenniums, Davidoff Anniversary

Ashton Cabinet and Ashton Aged Maduros

Last but certainly not least are the Fuente made Opus x,my favorite sizes in this line is the Fuente Fuente,Petite Lanceros and the Perfexcion X.

Most of these super premiums can be bought for 5-18 a stick. If you know where to look the price shouldn’t be an issue.

The Master made some decent recommendations on cigars. He left out one that I think could be the best cigar on the market, the Diamond Crown Maximus. Helluva lot more consistent than Opus X. And on the flip side, I think Hemmingway's are not all that good. The Don Carlos are good cigars but a little over priced. But that goes to show how people appreciate different cigars.

I want to suggest a few other cigars:
La Aurora 100 Anos - Another expensive cigar that actually meets the price tag
Torano Virtuoso - Around $125 a box, this is a sleeper that I think is better that a lot of $9+ cigars.
Don Lino Afrique - Another sleeper around $125 a box, really nice taste, just not quite as consistent as the Virtuoso. If you are patient, 4 months in the Cooler and these start to shine.

By all means smoke those bad boys!

I went through the same thing when I first got into this hobby. I just felt so strange about simply lighting fire to $5-$10 bills. Then I remembered why I enjoy cigars so much. The little things that only a great cigar can give you. The new flavors, sensations, and the relaxation and contemplation that comes with doing something as deliberate as smoking a good cigar. These types of experiences and feelings do not present themselves in other activities for me.

Cigars are meant to be smoked and enjoyed. If they were just meant to be looked at, they'd be made out of plastic or carved out of wood. Light 'em up and enjoy the great pleasures of a good cigar. After that, get some more. If budget is a concern, do a search here and you'll find all kinds of info on VERY economical smokes that are quite decent or even good. Then you can save the more expensive smokes for that one time a week or month or whenever time that you want something "special".

Who knows, maybe after you smoke them you'll find that you don't really like them. If that's the case it would be silly to save them for a special occasion only to be disappointed in the experience. You have to smoke them to know if they are really "special occasion" cigars.
 
I cant personally stand the Don Lino Africa and I've tried a couple of them. Just dont suit my tastes. As for the normal Diamond Crown line...I would call these pricey dog rockets from my experience. Now the Diamond Crown Maximus line on the other hand is a great line.

Cant forget to include the pricey Zino Platinum Crown series. Good but really costly. Hell, the Ashton VSG's are not all that expensive but a nice line either way.

So as you can see, there is plenty of better sticks to replace the 2 you have so smoke them already. I cant comment on the Graycliff but the Gurkha Legend Perfecto is a beautiful smoke and you can always get more if you like them. :thumbs:

Excccuuuuuuuusssseee Meeeeeeeeeeee. those recommendations are the best non Cubans on the planet. lololol

I purposely left the Maximus off the list because I do not enjoy them. I don't know what it is, I love natural DC's but for some reason that sungrown wrapper ruins the cigar for me. I also hate DC Maduros.

Now as far as Don Carlos being expensive, they used to be. They are now available at many places with some pretty steep discounts. One example is the Robusto for 152 and President for 180.

In reference to the Hemingways, they are in my opinion the best mild Cameroon wrapped cigar on the planet.

It is interesting to see the vast differences in preference when it comes to the flavor of a cigar. To me the La Aurora 100 Anos tastes like dirt and you couldn't pay me to smoke another, yet there are tons of people out there who love them.

To the original poster, stick to my suggestions, everyone knows that I have the best taste in cigars. lol
 
Find the time and smoke them. Not just to smoke them but to remember why you smoked a special cigar. There are times for everything and since you have two invite somebody over and give one to him/her, sit back and let both of you enjoy. I'm sure you will be rewarded. :D
