Today, right after dinner, my 9 year old son and his friend go out front to play basketball. My wife goes outside to work on her flower bed. I am on the computer working on some things and see a UPS truck pull up across the street, and then I look up 15 minutes later ...the UPS truck is still there. I was thinking, "thats a long time for a UPS truck to be in one place" so I go out front to check ont the kids, and the uPS driver is playing basketball with my kid and his friend. I was like "huh?" ....I called the guy over and asked him about it. Seems he has been talking to the two of them for a couple of days now, and that he told them he would play ball with them ...he even brought his own ball. I explained to him that a. My wife and I don't know you and b. It is just wrong for a grown man to be having conversations with 9 year olds about ....well hell about anything let alone play with them especially if you aren't friends with the parents!!!. I told him to stop playing with the kids, and to not do it again (after I got his info). He acted all hurt .....really hurt and I explained ...look man its not personal, but in today's day and age, you just can't do that. Then I thought to myself, came to my senses..and told him that a forty something year old man just does not start playing with someone's kid. PERIOD. I don't care what day and age it is...you just don't do that and not expect a parent to come and do something. Now I feel like I can't let my kid outta the house. Oh we told my son's friend's folks about it too.

You did the right thing. Did you have a talk with your son?

Agreed! You absolutely did the right thing. Definately need to talk to your son about it.

It is a scarry situatioin. When we moved into our current house, we found out that we had a registered sex offender living down the street. At first I was super pissed off, and then calmer heads prevailed. I wish there was something that I could do about it, but all I can do is be vigilant.

Apparently he is a level 3 sex offender, which meens highly likely to re-offend. He apparently molested and or raped, "Same thing in my book" 9-10 yr old girls. My oldest daughter is 10, my youngest is 2 1/2.

So I feel like I owe it to the neighborhood to watch this particular person very closely on behalf of everyone. Probably a good thing he dos'nt realize what would happen if he ever crossed a certain line with my family!!

Make a call to UPS, this guys route is not long enough if he has time to play ball. I am sure they would like to know about it. Also if you got his name call the police and see if he is a sex offender and tell them your concerns.
I know several UPS drivers here in my town and they hardly have time to eat lunch.

You certainly did the right thing! We dealt with an elderly fellow who liked to invite the neighborhood boys (only) over to hang out...after I discovered some had spent the night and he had given some an X-box I nearly crapped myself. Im ex-law enforcement and I know what that game is all about.
We had a report made and the Officers searched his house and told him he is done...he didn't have a record at the time, but I'll be go to hell if one of my kids is gonna be one of his victims.

Its a damn shame things are this way now days, but ya just can't be too sure especially when it comes to your kids!

I used to work for "brown" and I can't imagine that any employee of that company has enough time take a leak, let alone stop his truck and play basketball with some kids. Something is way wrong with that picture.

I'd call big brown and ask to have a manager come out (of course, you'll probably never see another package delivered to your house or if you do, they will all be flat as a pancake!). I'd also call the cops. It would be good to have a report on that incident.

I agree with the sentiments in this thread. Call UPS and let them know about this incident. That's just damn creepy.

Please talk to your son and also to UPS. Trust no one when it comes to your children, there are a lot of sick people out there.

Without a doubt you did the right thing. I would definitely talk to a supervisor at "Brown" to get some resolve from them. I would have had a hard time not kicking some ass also. I have a 9 yr old son also and wouldn't take kindly to this. You showed alot of restraint.

Definitely report this guy to UPS. It may make some waves that you should be prepared to deal with when he finds out about it, which I'm sure he will as they will confront him, but, on the other hand, he may just be a chickenshit coward like most guys like that are and run the other way....like roaches when the lights flick on. Sounds like he is just laying the foundations for that which you hear/read about in the news. I would wager that if he's not already registered, he will be one day. Best not with any child, let alone your child or those of your friends/family.

Great link Seavita, very disturbing but great. Can you send me a link to the Texas crime list you mentioned?

This is a very difficult topic for me. Among those pedophiles who are registered there are many more who aren’t. My daughter was sexually assaulted when she was just two but the state has yet to bring charges against the waste of carbon. Turns out he was convicted in the state of Washington for molesting his 12 year old step daughter. Washington required him to register so he came to Texas....who says he doesn't have to register here!! Unbelievable!

Obviously there's a lot to this situation that I'd rather not discuss here but parents need to know that those who are registered are only the one's who have been caught, convicted, and have not gone into hiding.

Please don't let this go. You should be proud that you may have saved these kids from a horrible experience but there are other kids on this guy's route who may still be in danger.

I do not know who posted it but it was not that long ago maybe a week or two......anybody???

This is the one I thought you were referring to: Texas Execution Thread However, it isn't related to the sex offender websites.

Yup that's it!! It was not meant to be "related" just another site that can suck up time through morbid fascination or in this case a desire to protect loved ones.

Ps. Below is a list of statistics of offenders by state....beware in AK, FL and TX especially....oddly enough my lovely NY is amongst the lowest rates...weird...

Offender Count By StateThis list contains the actual number of offenders that are publicly viewable in the official state registries. State Number of offenders Population (thousands) Offenders per million

Bombtek...You did the right thing. No question about it. Now, go the next step. You need to report the activity to the guy's supervisors. Your complaint...he didn't ask. He may be a good guy. He may be going through a nasty divorce and can't see his own kids...you fill in the good guy story. On the other hand he might be every parents worst nightmare. How would you feel if there was an amber alert for a missing kid, which ends with a mug shot of this guy. What you did was a stand-up thing...don't sit down yet.
