I say tell her the truth now, and that the other Hamster passed away. It has always worked out better that way for us in the long run!

And next time, instead of a hamster, maybe a Guinea Pig. They seem to fair a bit better than hamsters do.

Ditto! Kids are more resilient and intelligent than we sometimes give them credit for.

I'm a fan of honesty.

I have a friend that was talking to his daughter (6yo) about gun safety, and he asked her if she knew what happened if a person gets shot? This was just after a shooting in a school was on the news. Her answer was, "Yea, you only get three lives." Well, there went the video games out the window.

Kids have a right to learn about reality. That doesn't mean you have to be mean about it.
