can i use an unplugged freezer/refigerador for a coolidor? it would seem perfect, but i havent seen you guys discuss that option. im wondering if the freon (sp?)or something else might be a hinderence.

any input would be much appreciated.

there are no issues with freon that I know of. What I've heard so far is that you should absolutely sterilize to kill any reminders of what WAS stored in the freezer. I would go with plenty of exposed spanish cedar too, to buffer the RH. I expect you'll be filling it with boxes, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Lastly, I've heard that they tend to get warm, even unplugged. Watch your temp.

I use a Red Bull fridge for my fridgador.
I have no problems with it at all.
Maintains humidity like a champ.
Spanish cedar is a bit overkill... Boxes or trays should be more than sufficient.
Some beads and you are good to go!
Good luck!

Why not hook it up to a temp controller?
That way you can keep your cigars at a cooler temp.
Its only a $60.00 upgrade.
