Sitting In the backyard enjoying a cigar and a nice cold brew (or more than one...) and watching my son head off to hang out with his friends got me thinking. I just got into cigars seriously about 6-7 months ago and this would have been a great thought 13 years ago.....

He turns 21 in 8 years, what would be a great cigar to buy today to store for 8 years that I could share with him after he turns 21 with a nice glass of bourbon or scotch on the back patio? I'm assuming that at that point its going to be his first introduced to a cigar. And I know my tastes will evolve by then from what I have today. But what is something that's maybe medium or more mild to medium that would hold up to storing for 8 years in a humidor that would be a great introduction to a cigar that he would remember? I'm thinking something more memorable than a Macanudo Cafe type.

I know everyone's tastes are different so I'm just looking for ideas of something that's not in entry level easy beginner cigar Category, but something good for a beginner that will be memorable for him.

Have got to get a vote in for Padrón 1000 series, I prefer the Maduro, but natural is flavorful. Also think it is a great thought on your part. Nothing like a great relationship to build and a person to share your thoughts with. Way to go dad.

Padron x000 series isn't bad. A Fabrica5 Trinity Robusto might be another I could recommend. Mild to mid, not intimidating.

I have a few Cubans in the humidor from a trip to Madrid Spain in January. Not sure I have the discipline to leave them for 8 years though. LoL honestly I'm a little shocked they've lasted 6 months!

I suggested My Father because of the name. I don’t think your son’s first cigar will be memorable because of the flavors, but more of the general experience with you. Any My Father would work, but likely muted after so much time…

Alright, just spitballing. Buy a couple of your favorite sticks on his birthday for each of the next 8 years. That will allow for palate changes and give you both 8 different cigars to choose from on his 21st. If he's into the experience that will give you several opportunities to talk about the year you bought that individual stick, what was happening that year for each of you and your family and ultimately how our taste in pretty much everything changes over time or just get one of those "cubans" and forget about the cigars.

I have a few Opus X "Father and Son" cigars for when/if my son decides to smoke with me. As said above, his first cigar will be more about the experience and company than it will the cigar. That's why I thought the bands would be cool to keep and frame or something if he so decides.

Too bad cuban cigar prices are CRAZY right now, you could try and find birth month/year.

I'd go for Padron 1964 Principe, AF 858SG or VSG Corona Gorda. Lots of choices out there.
