:laugh:I agree with the idea that it probably wasn't best place to be doing such a thing. I have the same problem with meth. It's just too dangerous and hazardous to cook at my house, in a neighborhood full of other families so that's why I made the smart choice and have taken it out to my cabin in the woods.
Not sure what he ever could come up, in helping society as a whole, from splitting an atom at home. Now, if he had a body of work in 'cold fusion', he could have said we was looking to create a new power source for all of humanity. Splitting an atom creates heat and a plethora of other volatile reactions not conducive to a kitchen environment :0I just don't feel that experimentation and innovation should be limited to government, big business and academia. They all have their place, but if this was the rule, how long would we have waited for someone else to present the world with a working wireless radio? Marconi did it all in the attic.

+1 for all of what he just said!I just don't feel that experimentation and innovation should be limited to government, big business and academia. Nor do I, however such things as this that can have catastrophic results if something goes bad, should be done in controlled enviornments. If Marconi blew a transistor, it wouldn't contaminate square miles of land. Nor could a radio left on a street kill hundreds.
I know what you're saying and I agree to a point but, IMO, this is beyond that point. As for the over regulation of less serious experimentation, well I blame a lot of other things, not just terrorist. Laywers, government, lobbyists, etc. But that might devolve into a taboo subject here.
ETA: if he was found in possesion of serious contaminating diseases (anthrax, ebola, smallpox, etc), would it make anybody else feel better if he was alledgedly working on these diseases at home to creat a cure? I know I'd be very worried if I was nearby.
Yeah, but he may have really screwed up and revolutionized science. Most of Science's progressions and inventions are the rusults of unintended consequences, just look at Silly Putty.
