Third Annual Toast Across America Expected to Raise Over $300,000 for the Dominican Republic

The World's Largest Cigar Toast Benefiting the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation

On the week of September 18-24, 2005, the Fuente and Newman families will host the third annual Toast Across America to benefit the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation. Over the past two years, this nationwide fundraiser, involving over 10,000 cigar aficionados, raised $500,000 for the Dominican Republic. It is estimated that over $300,000 will be raised in this year's Toast Across America.

There are over 120 retailers participating in the 2005 Toast who will help raise funds needed to continue the development of the first Cigar Family Community Complex in the Dominican Republic. To date a primary school, medical clinic, and multi-use community center have been built. Safe drinking water stations and bridges have also been constructed. Community electric supply systems complemented with solar energy back-up have been developed. An organic farm is already producing fertilizer, honey, shrimp and fish. Hope and opportunity have been given to five rural communities where none existed previously...but there still remains much more to be done.

Future plans include the completion of the new Cigar Family High School, the volleyball/basketball/locker room sports complex, the Cigar Family Youth and Recreation Center, Cigar Aficionado Baseball Field, and a community kitchen. The development of a Home Repair program, expansion of the safe drinking water network, construction of additional bridges, creation of micro-businesses to generate income within the communities, and the implementation of adult technical and vocational training programs are also on the horizon.

In 2001, the Fuente and Newman families established the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation. The concept of the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation was developed by Carlos Fuente Jr. who was inspired by both the tremendous humanitarian needs of the Dominican people as well as the incredible generosity of the CigarFamily.com members.

The Cigar Family Charitable Foundation has partnered with the Instituto Dominicano de Desarrollo Integral, Inc. (IDDI), on the development of this community complex in the Dominican Republic. What sets the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation apart from almost every other not-for-profit is that 100% of every dollar contributed goes directly to charitable purposes. All administrative, legal, accounting, office, website, and other general marketing costs are totally underwritten by the Newman and Fuente families.

The Cigar Family Charitable Foundation is a 501 ©(3) charitable tax-exempt organization. A copy of the official registration and financial information may be obtained from the division of consumer services by calling toll-free 1-800-HELP-FLA (Florida residents) or 1-850-488-2221 (outside of Florida).

MilesMingusMonk is right...

The Maxamar Cigar shop in Orange CA is hosting TAA on Sept. 22nd 2:00 pm.

I was informed about the event in Wichita KS this afternoon, It will be the 22nd.

Unfortunately I am unable to attend, as I will be floating down the White River, downing a few beers, smoking a few stogies, catching a few (Ok, maybe quite a few) fish and spending some quality time with my wife.

On an aside, they are having a Macanudo event this friday. Should be interesting.

The shop I am planning on going to in Richmond is having the TAA event later than is listed on the press release because they are having a LGC event at around the same time and are short on help to boot. They haven't sent me the email confirming the date but they said it could be as late as into October. Sucks but Im still wanting to go, never been before and sounds and looks(from the pics Ive seen) to be a lot of fun for a good cause.

Most shops will let you reserve a space with a paid contribution and then you can join in the festivities or pick up a package afterwards.

22nd here in Alaska- Pete's Tobacco. Sad thing is I'm working- but I got my 2 tickets and they'll hold them for me.

By God! I'll be there! I won't be able to stay for the entire event (game starts at 7p) but I'll stick around as long as I can. Set me up, I'll PM you with some personal info.

Damn, the link above shows that there will not be any B&Ms hosting TAA in Boise this year. Sturmanns, who hosted this last year, is not on the list. I kinda had a feeling when I spoke to him a coupla weeks ago. He didn't sound real jazzed and said not a lot of people participated last year. :(

It will be for two of us, my wife and I. (I'll smoke her share :p )

BTW: Is there any dress code? I ask because the event in Wichita is at the Scotch and Sirloin, a fairly classy place to eat, not a place I would feel comfortable wearing jeans to. Leaving from your event to go to a hockey game dressed to the nines makes me a bit nervous also
