Very sorry to hear about your loss. It's been a little over a year since I lost my dog to illness and 6 or 7 months since we had to put our cat down because of old age. We got him when I was still in elementary school for crissakes!
Anyway, know that things will get better and with time you'll start to remember all the good times and smile without experiencing the heartache you feel now. But never forget. That's one thing I've told myself. Never forget what their lives meant to you. Write it down, keep it on your keychain, place your hand on their urn every morning, heck, even get it tattooed on your body (btw, I've done and do all of these)! Just don't forget them.

I think you may be onto something there.
I've been trying for a while to think of what my next tattoo should be. If I can find the right artist to capture her likeness, it would be a very fitting tribute.

You've probably seen this but if not.....
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Still healing, and taken at a bit of a weird angle, but every day I'll have a reminder of my pal. Thanks TBC for the great idea!

Maisey was a good looking dog and sounds like she had a fantastic life. It's tough watching a dog/pet go. I still think about Murphy quite a bit and I let her go back in February. Dogs are amazing animals and their unconditional love, loyalty, and trust is truly wonderful to experience. My thoughts are with you. Sorry for your loss!

X2! Oh man, I read the first post and found myself with tears in my eyes. When I hit that last part with the things that traveled with her well, had to get up and go love on my Mandy for a bit. So very sorry for your loss. That tattoo is incredible!

I am sorry for your loss. Getting the tattoo was a great idea. I have several tats of loved ones and it helps in the healing. Even though there is a hole left where they once were, the tat will help you fill it somewhat. It is hard to explain but sometimes when I'm caught up in the madness of the day, I will catch a glimpse of one of my tattoos and I will be flooded with memories of the good times. The smile that brings can't be duplicated. Hope you sadness passes soon.
