Was bidding on a Honda EU3000is Portable Inverter Generator. Well, $2300 later, I win. The MF took me. I hope Karma catches up with the bastard. I feel like shit!!!!!!! :(

P.S. The positive note:

EBay's Standard Purchase Protection Program is $200.00 minus $25.00 (to cover processing costs).

Better than nothing I guess.

Escrow service is the only way to go when spending that kind of money. IMO.

I would first try and contact your local Police Dept. If they are no help then you may try and contact the Police Dept in the sellers area. This happened to a friend of mine with a laptop computer. The District Attorney had enough people make complaints and they were able to prosecute the individual. My friend (NYC Det) was asked to go to Maine and testify against the seller. He got some of his money back but also got to help stop a person from frauding other people.

Good luck

Don't know about the police dep't...probably won't get you far. But, definitely take the time to fill out an on-line complaint form to the FTC E-Commerce dep't (see link below), and also report it on-line to your state attorney/attorney general (in both locations, yours and his). Attorney General, at least here in Florida (and a few other states I know of) takes these matters seriously and will address it.

Here's the link to file on-line with the FTC:

FTC Linky

Again, definitely report it to the Attorney General in both states. Usually you can do this on-line as well.

Good luck, and sorry that you have to deal with this.

Edited to add:

Here's the link to your CT Attorney General. Didn't read everything to see if you can file complaint online, but you can at least email them at the address listed on the site, and they'll help you from there or get you pointed in the appropriate direction.

Thanks for the reply brother. I filed the complaint. Semper Fi Devil Dog. I served from 79-83.

:p :p ... I would still notify your local PD.... It is their jurisdiction also

Sorry to hear that bro!! Tell you what, if it is something critical you needed it for, I can hook you up with an inverter/charger, I have a couple of extras. Cant help you out with the generator though.

Bill

I appreciate it Bill. I have my mind set on this generator. I do alot of camping and go to Dover every summer for the race. It took me three years to save. I guess, I just have to start all over again. I just got the e-mail fom e-bay stating that they have found in my favor and will be sending me the $175. That's a start. Thanks again bro.

No problem bro! Let me know if you change your mind.

$2,300.00? There's another seller on eBay who has five of them at a "Buy It Now" price of $1,999.00.

Who was the seller who stiffed you and where does he live? If someone on the board here lives near this seller, maybe they can pay him a visit for you. ;)

This generator had all the accessories(sp). Remote start, cables to join two generator, diamond plate weather cover and of course wheels. no accessory was left out. He is a she.

IFC internet Fraud Commission complaint #1, Ebay complaint #2, Local Pd for report only but they will not investigated it unless you live in the same area as this dude.

cancel payment on check (if done) or reverse payment on charge or paypal too.

Sorry Smitty but from what I understand jurisdiction falls in the "point of discovery". This is why local police should be given the option to investigate or hand off the investigation to a higher authority. Most local PDs will not forcefully investigate anything like this because most Credit Card companies will just write it off.... But, I would definitely give them the option to do/or not to do anything about it. All Police Depts work very well with each other. If they do nothing about it and the AG for "your" state asks why.... they will look like idiots.

The FTC refers the complaint to the local PD (if they're a member) - so likely it will end up with the local PD. Plus - that site tracks multiple complaints for possible federal prosecution. It is definitely worth checking out... (www.ftc.gov)

I would not count out the local police - it varies from dept to dept, but more and more local PD's are jumping and and battling this type of crap. They have the resources if they're savvy enough...

Good luck!!!!
