I've got a friend making a road trip from Miami to Seattle this summer with his family (Swiss and Thai family). They asked me for some recommendations on places they should eat, with a focus on local places/ BBQ. I've lived near one of the cities on their route, so I made suggestions, but thought the collective knowledge of CP could come up with better and more current ideas. Their route is Miami-Orlando-Huntsville, AL-Memphis-K.C.-Lincoln, NE- Cheyenne-WY- and Seattle. He's familiar with Miami, and his family lives in Seattle. I've sent them to Rendezvous in Memphis and suggested Dreamland in Huntsville. What places would you recommend in these cities or other cities along the route? For example, I'd add 43rd Street Deli for breakfast in Gainesville, FL.

Parkers Smokehouse
16880 US-6, Ashland, NE 68003

Then they need to stop at Bakers Candies just down the road
831 S Baker St, Greenwood, NE 68366

Actually, second Buc-ees. My brother just moved to Tennessee from Chicago and he actually thinks their BBQ is pretty good. It's an experience though. I have not tried it, but my brother doesn't praise BBQ lightly.

We have one 10 minutes from my house. I was hoping I would like their beef barbecue, but I much prefer their pork barbecue.

If they wanted an experience, skip Lincoln, NE (Still stop at Bakers Candies) and go to Ole's
That is a bucket list place.

I would recommend stopping in Tupelo, MS. They can stop and see Elvis’ birthplace, then grab a bite to eat at Clay’s House of Pig. It’s in a bait and tackle shop, but “You better bring an extra shirt, because you WILL be covered in BBQ sauce, rib juice, and slobber!”

What trip to Memphis would be complete without seeing Graceland? It’s pretty humbling to see where he was born and where he died in the same trip. We did both in the same day!

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll relay it to them.

I never went to Graceland II, but I heard it was interesting. I assume it is no longer there with the passing of the owner.

Cut up pot roast into pieces and put them in a ziplock freezer bag. Season it, add worchester/soy sauce maybe a little beer. Cover it with aluminum foil tightly. Place it on your engine where there are no moving parts. Drive 6-700 miles and you have dinner. You can also do this with vegetables, potatoes but they take less time. John

I’m m into date bars mixed with delicious stuff. Just tons of backpacker food. If they want to stop at places along the way - google or grok is probably a better way to go.

When I drove across country Burger King sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit was a staple.
