Hey guys!
I need a new TV. I got a POS 27" thats 15+ years old.
My only requirements are 36" and up and less then 2000 bucks.
I watch more TV then movies so a normal or adjustable widescreen.
Plasma, LCD, projection, projector, or regular tube.
I play X-box, the screen has got to be able to handle the static images without burn in and be able to deal with the X-box's tendancy to bleach out in bright scenes(on my old set).
Give me your best suggestions and the best place to pick it up at.
Good deals are GOOD!

Thanks brothers!

You best bet would be a DLP.
No burn in issues to ever worry about.
Great for gaming. Great for sports.Great for TV.
Also the 720P displays will be cheaper.
But the newer 1080P sets are out. SO that is also another thing to consider.

Do you have any preference in brand?

mitsubishi
samsung
sony
rca
philips

Things to look for in a TV.

Component in/out (x2)
HDMI (for future use of HD DVD players)

Will you be using cable box? satellite? or ota antenna

I would buy a Samsung DLP. The HD2+ chip is better than the HD3, but I'm sure TI's come out with a newer chip. DLP is reasonably priced, is thinner than a CRT, and has a great picture. I can't remember the best places to buy them. Check out avsforum.com for some great info on all home theatre topics.

Whatevr you get just make sure it has an HDMI input as that is the new standard for AV connections.

I can only tell you what I have - Sony 42" LCD - the picture is terrific - HDTV is unbelieveable - You can now get a 50" for what I paid for the 42" - Also, if you buy from Costco, you automatically get a 3 yr warranty - my $ .02

How is LCD with burn in?
DLP may be the way to go then...

Thanks so far!

Rob, I've been extremly pleased with the 42" Panasonic plasma that I bought a few months ago for the store. HDMI, V-chip, displays 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i Got it at Best Buy, they were having a one day sale and I payed $1689 for it. Reg $2400 or so. I just checked around and waited until a good one came up for sale. Great T.V. for a great price. Good luck in finding a new one.

i have a sony 50" dlp (cost me $2000.00 after rebates and price adjustments) with the hdmi and sony high def dvd player. very happy with the setup, the hd (high def) picture is incredible. as alex and avb pointed out, hdmi connections are the future, so be sure to get a set and components that support it. also, DO NOT buy your cables from the store you purchase the set at, they rape you on them. go to partsexpress.com for all your cable needs. a hdmi cable at circuit city/best buy is around 100 buks, parts express...29 bucks. and get the extended warranty if it covers bulbs and bulb replacment, each bulb costs ~$200, and last around 3000 hours, one replacement pays for the extended warranty. good luck!

For what its worth, I know it has been said, but I would like to reiterate that DLP is the way to go. I have asked lots of questions about them where I work, Sears, and the Samsung seem to be the best. Hope this helps.

Tweeter has a 52" mitsu(hd2+ chip) the wd52327 for $1,698.00

It looks like you're already going to do what I was going to recommend: Buy it at Costco, regardless of which set you buy. Costco's return policy makes it the only place I'll ever buy a high dollar item like this. It's like getting the extended warranty for free.

Hi Rob

I bought a new set just a couple of months ago here is my short list.

DLP - Samsung (the newest ones are 1080p!)
LCD - Sony SXRD (42" WEGA is just under 2k)
Plasma - Panasonic (way too much $)

It was a real toss up between the DLP & LCD. Both pictures were great and I was leaning towards the Sony LCD. I found an "Open Box" at Best Buy on the exact model DLP that I was considering and got a 56" for $1800. I couldn't be happier with it (after 4 months).

I also just picked up a Vizio 32" LCD from Sam's Club for $850 - AWESOME set for the money. 2 friends ended up getting them and they are both HT geeks - they love them as well. (Sams also has a 3yr extended warranty for like $89).

Hope this helps.

I have a 52" Mitsubishi LCD and I paid $2k for it. Great TV for the money.

I have a samsung 50" dlp and I have been extremely happy with it. One set of component cables and your playing xbox in hd. Amazon.com has some incredible prices on their tv's. Even with shipping their prices are better than CC, Bestbuy.

Samsung is looking very nice now...
Thanks guys!
Mark how the hell do you have time to watch one TV never the less three of em? :sign:
