As an avid beer lover, I have always been a lover of stouts and brown ales that seem to make their appearance during the fall/winter months. However, I always loved when the initial Fall beer variety packs make their way onto the shelves. This is when I know my favorite beer season is inbound. Now for this I would like to bring up the Sam Adams Fall Variety Pack. I know a lot of people seem to love the Sam Adams Octoberfest; however, it seems it varies from year to year and the profile changes. This year it seems that have gotten right once again. the Jack-O pumpkin beer is actually pretty well rounded this go around as well. I especially enjoy the Flannel Fest with a nice maduro in the evening. Overall, i found this year's variety pack not too bad and quite enjoyable all around. However, I am really ready for some amazing holiday stouts and porters that will be coming around soon. Please let me know what you guys and gals think of this year's contribution from Sam Adams. Was it a hit, or a miss for you?

The Sam Octoberfest in the early-to-mid '90s was one of my most favorite beers of all time. It was dumbed down not long after to appeal to the masses and hasn't appealed to me since. I'm wondering if the Flannel Fest Dunkel may be similar to that old recipe. I may have to give this a shot.

I thought some of the beers SA has discontinued in the past would make a comeback with the craft-beer and brewery explosion. The Cream Stout and Scotch Ale were always in my rotation in the '90s. They also came out with a Hallertau Imperial Pilsner in the mid-2000s that that was better than most of today's IPAs.

Yes I totally agree! The October Fest that was once a staple of amazing fall flavor slanted downhill after the 90s for sure. This year it seems to be a step above better than recent years. however, I preferred the Flannel Fest way better. Cream stouts are amazing and make a wonderful pairing! I have never tried or seen the Halleratu imperial Pilsner. I will have to research and see if I can find some to try.
