I am headed to San Juan Tuesday.
Was wondering if anyone here has been there.
Any good restaurant, bars, or smoking location suggestions?
I am probably going to check out El Yunque and kick around Old San Juan.

We were there last year....Love the Rain forest...you have to stop and check out some of the food from the road side stands....amazing. we also had the tour guide head around to the beach area so we could check it out. I really like Old SanJuan too. El Moro is a great old fort to walk around. Alot of history there. And then we checked out alot of shops in OldSanJaun. We went a day early before our cruise.

**edit to add**.. Hey Rob if your driving there be careful. they drive FAST...And I thought New Englanders were fast...AHAHAHAHA

Rob,

Mojito, the beach and cigars is what I remember. There is a well stocked cigarhop in Old San Juan where I got some Davi for MSRP. Have fun! :)

Jon (Cabiguan Juan) was there last year. PM him, maybe he missed this.
Almost missed it. A ferry ride away is the Bacardi Factory. You can pick up a rum that they do not sell anywhere else in the US, Reserva I think. The tour is free and they give you drinks. I spent most of my time at the El Conquistador resort which is east of SJ, so i didn't get to spend much time in SJ. There are great beaches, the Rain Forest was pretty cool, I checked out El Yunque- very cool BTW. I also went to the Fort at Old SJ. Very awesome, its massive in size. I dont know how much more help i can be, but try some of the side shops, eat where the locals eat at.

Yes the Bacardi plant is a must as is El Morro. There is a cigar company in Old San Juan, by the name of Don Collins. Great place to go in and grab a smoke they usually take your picture while smoking one of their cigars. They also offer either an espresso or a shot of the local rum, not Bacardi. If you don't know Bacardi is a Cuban family operation. There is a lunchonette down the street from Don Collins, ask the people that work there and they'll tell you how to get there. The food there is like eating home cooking, with a different special every day.

If you go to El Yunque do stop at one of the roadside places, you will not be disappointed. Make sure you drink the coconut with the rum in it as that is probably one of the greatest drinks you can have on a hot day. Be careful though nothing like driving those twisty roads half loaded.

Enjoy yourself and remember golf is expensive.

a coworker of mine just stayed at the El San Juan, she brought me back a cigar from their walk in humi, she said that the hotel had a real nice smoking lounge with a bar.

Yep, tour the Bacardi plant. Just make sure to bring some people who don't drink. You'll each get 2 tickets for drinks.

If you get a chance to go fishing for tarpon do it. I caught the biggest fish of my life behind the bacardi factory on a guided boat I booked about 180-200# and about 7ft long took me 45min to land it. Ponce is worth going to see to if you have the time.

Had a nice time burned a bunch of fine sticks.
Lost only a few bucks in the casinos.
The weather was 80 everyday and had some showers in the late afternoon and eves.

Walkin around old San Juan was nice, lots of interesting old architecture.
The forts were cool especially on Sunday when people were flying kites on the grass by one of em.

Took a day trip to St. Barth's.
A pretty amazing place, nude beaches and liberal smoking laws.
Flying in has a super difficult approach and you can park your car and wath the planes coming in down the hill of taking off low over the beach and then banking left.

Took a day trip to El Yunque, a very cool rainforest.
Stopped by a beach town on the way back home for some grub.
For great fried food and dollar beers I hit Pinones.
Smoked a cigar in one of the only indoor smoking areas in San Juan , El San Juan resort.

Never made it to the Bacardi factory...
Next time I go perhaps...
Then I will get out of SJ!
There's a ton of stuff I missed by staying in town...
Vieques, Culebra, Rincon, the lechoneras down south.

If you go be prepared to be patient.
Service in the restaurants is mediocre at best you can wait for a looong time (for food, your check) and the food is generally mediocre.
I am super patient and even I was tested from time to time.
Driving is an experience too!

The Carribean certainly doesn't suck!
Especially in the winter!

Welcome home!

We were worried that they had something against Hawaiians in Puerto Rico and had locked you up. :D

Yeah I was worried that you got hitched with one of the naked native girls :whistling: I was going to sell your spot at the Quad Herf if I didn't hear back from you. 80 degree weather is nice in February!
