First of all, we have a NO POLITICS rule for a reason. See why?

It's people like highdudgeon who claim to be so brilliant yet lack the most common sense. He believes that we should all support the poor people. Those who have a bunch of kids and only make min wage. Don't have kids if you can't afford it. A lot of people on welfare down here in LA (as I'm sure in most parts of the US) have more and more kids so that they can collect more welfare (money from us tax payers). Is this fair? Those of us who know how to manage our money, don't overspend, save our money for luxuries we enjoy, are RESPONSIBLE, have to suffer for the underclass dumbass who doesn't care of him/herself or their family???

Yet it's people like highdudgeon who claim to be so smart yet are so ignorant. I have two words for you highdidgeon: NATURAL SELECTION - look it up.

I have the perfect solution for that Rick: Pay People To Get Fixed. I'd recommend $10-15k. If you're desparate enough to take the cash in exchange for your ability to reproduce, then you should not be having children anyway. In one generation's time, we'd be closing prisons and doing away with half of our social programs, and ending many a cycle all in one beautiful swoop.

Somehow, I don't think Eugenics is the answer.

Doc.

I agree, but this isn't forcing anyone to do anything. It's a choice, no different than the choice to buy drugs or to have unprotected sex. It is, however, an opportunity to improve 'life' for children. F'd up kids don't drop out of the sky. They come from parents who make poor decisions. And as evolution shows, they then become the next generation of those parents. So where does it end?

Rick: Ah... Rod, Todd, Mick, Rick, Milli, Vanilli... Does it really matter?

I tried to not respond to this thread, but that was a very rude and frankly, insulting post Rod. I'm shocked at your whole post. Discussing taxes is one thing....but this is just plain mean and shouldn't have a place on this board.

Ban him!

First of all.... HD was incorrect when he said cigar prices would increase "a few dimes" or "a buck" (I'm paraphrasing). SCHIP would increase the retail price of cigars by roughly 50-53% depending on which version ultimately passes (and it will in the next 12 to 18 months...bet on it). So your $10 Anejo is now a $15 Anejo WITH ONE STROKE OF THE PEN.

Then there's the floor tax. Again, 53% of whatever inventory the retailer ALREADY HAS! OK... so 75% of mom and pop cigar joints have to fold 'cause they don't have that kind of dough. Then, because of the drastic decrease in business and retail establishments, almost all the the boutique manufacturers close their doors. Economies of the DR, Honduras and Nicaragua fall even deeper in the hole. Yeah, you love Tat's and DPG and OPUS, etc.... but are you really willing to pay $15-$25 a stick? And if you are, where are you going to get them? It's trickle down economics at it's worst. Oh, but it's "all for the children."

Now that I've had my .02, the moderators can just delete the thread and we can all smoke our favorite cigar and get our blood pressure back under control.

And this is exactly why we don't discuss politics at CigarPass - we don't all share the same beliefs or views. We all have a different point of view. My post wasn't meant to offend anyone, simply a response back to HD.

Mike (and others) - I sincerely apologize if I offended you, that was not my intent by any means.

I hope you guys can keep politics off of CP, cigars and politics don't mix.

Next person to start a political thread knowing that it goes against our rules, will be suspended and/or terminated.
