Serenity the movie

Just got back from seeing the movie Serenity -- a really excellent flick.

Imagine that, a sci-fi movie that has:
-- Unique characters
-- An interesting story
-- Witty dialog

....and doesn't depend on special effects or dorky gizmos to make it a good movie. Recommended, even if sci-fi isn't your thing! Reviews...

It's what the Star Wars prequels could have been.

Agreed! The tv show (Firefly) it's based on was also excellent. Unfortunately it only lasted one season but it is available on dvd.

The wife and I saw it today; it's a good movie. She's a big Josh Wheadon fan (Buffy, Angel) and we liked this enough to check out the series on DVD.... :thumbs:

As Wurm says, YES! I watched it from the beginning and was seriously bummed when it was cancelled. The movie really wraps up the series so you could consider it a very long prequel. Same cast by the way. I was surprised they got everyone back for the film.

My favorite thing about the movie was that they didn't waste any time introducing the characters (thus doing us fans, a huge service). I can't wait to see the next two!

For what it's worth, I saw the movie without ever having seen the show... and loved it. Seems like it's not necessary to see the show first.

My wife and I loved the series and thought the movie was fantastic. Unique all the way around....

Its just disappointing that they cancelled the show only after airing 11 out of 14 episodes. Heck they even aired the pilot/first show (which set everything up) as the LAST episode they showed. It was almost as if they had no intention of trying to give it a chance....

but then again we can get reruns of seinfeld, and variations of "who's yo' daddy" 'till we're blue in the face....

I forgot to mention, you can go to the Serenity website and watch the first 8 minutes of the film to preview it. Very cool idea, in my opinion.

If you are not opposed to purchasing it, you can get it at Bestbuy for $40 or so, or $30 off of Amazon. I recommend it as a purchase, because the characters are well developed and likeable, giving it some decent replay value.
