I think we're now back up....

To make a long story short, we had some server issues the other night, which caused the database (which is massive) to become corrupt. After the first 12 hours of trying to repair the database, I put the site back online. As some members pointed out, they were experiencing some odd issues. Turned out there were still problems with the database. Spent another 6 hours trying to repair it, and just kept running into problem after problem. The database pretty much blew up, for lack of a better term.

I decided to restore the entire site back to April 27, 2008. Better safe than sorry...

I apologize for the inconvenience; I don't think we have ever been down this long in the history of CP.

Please continue to test out the board, and let me know if you experience any errors.

Thank you,
Rod

Hi, My name is John and I'm a CPaholic.

One day away and I was going through withdrawls.

AHHH

THis would be why I can not find a thread Istarted the a few days ago.....

Thanks for all that you do to keep this site up and running. Without you I, for one, would just be an uniformed, BBless, soul searching the vast internet for a place to rest my cyberhead....

My name is robbie, and I thought I had finally mastered time travel. *sigh*

Sucks that you have to do all this unexpected work Rod.

It's times like these that appreciation for CP is highlighted. Most of us are at a loss when we cannot log in "as normal"

Thanks Rod, I for one understand the work you are putting in right now, must be very frustrating.

Brian

Thanks Brian, I appreciate it.

If you guys think you had withdrawals, I literally did not sleep last night. Was working w/ the data center all night, and I know I'm going to be a zombie today.

Wow to remember what normal life is like without CP, I felt empty inside and almost went into a panick at the thought of no more CP. Thanks again Rod your the man.

I know I speak for a lot of folks on here when I say thank you so very much Rod for all the incredibly hard work you've put into getting us back up. It really is amazing how much CP is a part of our lives!! And I mean REALLY amazing!! :D

DB too BIG?

That does not sound good. Once it gets too big it is almost impossible to manage.
I was thinking, and I have seen this on other sites, they lock down threads that haven't had a reply in 6 months.
Keeping old threads from being resurrected can help with speed.

As for keeping the size down, the only thing I can think of is to split it into multiple DBs.
I have a friend of mine who is a DB Admin expert, if you need help, I can see if I can arrange a discussion to talk about the available options.

Either way you have some hard decisions to make for the future. Good luck.

Thanks

Thanks Rod!

You suggested we spend time with our wives last night in chat. When I did, she asked, "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be on CP?"

In all seriousness, thanks for providing this wonderful community a place to gather. Your hard work is definitely appreciated.

I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work to give us a great place to hang out and enjoy a positive experience.

In my self-centeredness, I neglected to thank you as well, Rod. To echo what many are saying, it was truely eye-opening to learn how much CP has become part of my daily life. I actually felt cut off and out of touch.

Thank you again for all you do and for this community.

John

Thanks for getting us back up, Rod. Good luck on keeping yourself awake today. Let me know if you're in need of some evaluation copy software. ;)
