Woohoo!!! The postman delivered the long-awaited upgrade to my shaving kit today. Not only did I finally get the Spanish point straight razor I've wanted, I upgraded the old brush and strop, too.

  • Rooney 1/2 "Super Silvertip" shaving brush
  • Tony Miller 3" Artisan latigo/linen strop
  • Heribert Wacker 15/16 "Antik" Spanish Point Limited Edition, #1 of 16, with blond horn scales

Looks good to me. I recently read what shaving brushes are made of and was very surprised.

Holy cannolis, that is some NICE equipment! I just started straight razor shaving approx. 1 1/2 months ago, and I'll never go back. I'm still using an injector razor to get the hang of it though, but I bought my first beaver brush. Congratulations!
 
I've wondered if I really want to shave this way. Just something about a razor, my jugular,
my nerves of steel.

Seriously though, I have casually looked at straight razors, and that is the nicest "looking" one I have seen.

I have badger artists paintbrushes that I purchased easily 20 years ago. VERY expensive.
I don't know, and wonder about, the shaving advantage. When it comes to applying, blending, and other techniques used in painting, the improvements are substantial.
 
I've always considered going this route too. I am the type that doesnt need to shave all that often (3x a week) and was told with a good straight razor shave I could go almost all week without anything growing back. Have any good sites for researching this kind of stuff?
 
Man, this the cadillac of shave dens there!! I'm still playing with the DEs, but someday I'll test out those waters.... Thanks for the picks. Very nice.

You think those are expensive..... you should see what our freakin' Sable brushes go for!.... especially the Kolinsky's!!! :0

I wish I could give this type of shaving a try. A razor has only touched my face three times in my life with very bad results! Unfortunately I'm stuck with only being able to use an electric razor. :(

I'll stick with my DE Gillette, though. If I'm ever in a position to require shaving more often than I do now I'm definitely checking out a straight razor set up. For now, the DE Gillette I have is great.
 
That looks like some very nice equipment. I wish I had the nerve to try that, I just don't think I have a steady enough hand not to cut myself.

Try these resources for starters:
Badger & Blade — wet shaving forum with a mix of double-edge (DE) and straight razor (SR) users...with the majority being DE shavers, I think. A wealth of information, including product reviews.
Straight Razor Place — similar to B&B but with greater emphasis on SR shaving.
ClassicShaving.com — one of the leading online vendors of wet shaving products...razors (DE and SR), accessories, soaps, creams, balms, etc. It's where I bought my brush.
ShavingShop.com — Another vendor with a different selection of products. Where I bought my Wacker.
TheWellShavedGentleman.com — also known as The Heirloom Razor Strop Co., a one-man, part-time operation run by Tony Miller. Well regarded on the forums, his strops are very reasonably priced for a product hand-made from quality materials. If you make this your first strop, it should give you years of service...but buy the practice strop! Be prepared to wait, too. When I decided to buy mine, I had to wait about a month for Tony to make another production run of the latigo strops and they were gone within a couple of days.

Nothing at all shabby about a good DE, in my opinion. Some folks on the shaving forums collect some might fine hardware. I may have to try it myself, someday.
 
I appreciate the great equipment... :thumbs: Though I'm chicken shit to try a straight razor myself.

Don't worry, I only shave my neck in the winter. Too damn cold to go clean shaven. Summer will have me showing a little more skin, but not much.
