Shotgun recommendations?

I've always been partial to the Benneli. But it's more important that gun feels comfortable in your hands. If it is, you will probably hit what your shooting at.

A lot of good suggestions, and some not so good. Way too many questions unanswered to give you a solid answer. Just as well ask who makes the best cigars. Its very subjective and your overall use, budget, and abilities play a big part in the decision.

Most people tend to recommend what they themselves shoot. Thats good and dandy but what I or someone else shoots does not make it a good gun for you. You would be best served to go to a good gun store or a good skeet/trap range and get expert advice and fit. If you want to improve your shot 50% without a day of practice get fitted.

Fitting a shotgun is good idea if you are seasoned shooter mount the gun same way all the time and have a consistant cheek to stock mount. If you are just learning or still getting the hang of it buy a gun that fits your body size and feels comfortable once you are consistent in your shooting then consider fitting and it will improve your shooting. If you are still learning fitting a gun to someone who still has some bad habits ie inconsistent mount cheek to stock changes or you do not have a consistent shoulder pocket mount meaning gun hits shoulder same place every time fitting will not help.

Try this attach a flash light to your gun in a dark room close your eyes and mount the gun several times if the flashlight does not hit the wall in the same place each time fitting a gun probably will not help you yet.

I love my Remington 870 Wingmaster. And, I love my Benelli Super Black Eagle.
I prefer the Remington pump for shooting Dove & skeet.
If you want something simple but, reliable go with the 870.
If you want performance and something that will shoot 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 shells, go with the Benelli or, a similar Berretta.

I think that's the best advice - do some research and then go to a reputable dealer and get fitted. Thanks guys.
Since you sound serious, get yourself a copy Shotgunning: The Art and Science by Bob Brister. Everything you ever wanted to know about shotgunning. It's considered The Bible and a good place to start before spend any money.

Doc.

Doc,
Thanks for the advice. I just want to make sure I make a researched and informed decision. I am a bean counter by trade, so I tend to overthink some things. However, in a case like this, it makes sense to do a lot of research before I buy as the last thing I want to do is buy something without doing research and find out it is not ideal for what I want to use it for. I will check out that book. I am somewhat limited to my research, at least while at work, because my company has blocked all websites that deal with firearms, but any recommendation on internet sources? Thanks guys again.

Stoeger makes a Condor model O/U which sells for about $225 - $250 at Dicks.

Because an O/U has no action it is about 3 1/2 inches shorter and easier to wield when shooting live game or skeet.

This rapidly became my favorite rabbit hunting gun because of it's ease of handling and cost.

I admit I should have worded that better. I meant buying a pump probably would not be ideal for skeet/sporting clays, and it would make more sense to consider semi-auto or over/under.

Love the Harold and Kumar quote.

I've always been partial to the Benneli. But it's more important that gun feels comfortable in your hands. If it is, you will probably hit what your shooting at.

That's the best advice someone can give you. The level of personal comfort you feel with a certain model of shotgun means everything.

I'm a huge fan of the Benelli Super Black Eagle, it shoots a max load 3.5" (in 12 ga) or a 2.75" trap load. I've never had a jam, and mine has killed (or shot at) quite a few ducks, and killed a good # of turkeys. A couple friends like the Beretta Extrema, pretty much does the same as the Benelli.

Benelli hands down!!!

Remington 870 Express

X2

I have the Rem 870 Magnum Express which takes all 3 shell sizes and was only about 300 bucks. But as others have advised, get what feels right in your hands....I almost bought a Mossberg until I held it. The 870 just felt better and more balanced to me.

I went skeet with a Sweet 16 and thats was great i am more of a handgun target shooter
a also have a mossberg for skeet and trap good cheap gun .
