Hi Rod and Guys,

I'm new here, but the recent batch of bad threads strikes me as things the community, and especially the new guys like me, can learn from. I'm talking about the spurious "looking for Cubans" type threads among others.

What do you think about creating a forum to warehouse these bad threads and posters (I'd hesitate to call them members) so that we can see them all in one place? I think that the benefit of the approach would be to collect all the "asshats" in one place so that members can readily learn about all the way things can go wrong, all in one place.

The risk is that presenting these threads in such a concentrated dose might contribute to a skewed sense of what the place is really about.

What do you think?

That's a very interesting idea. Something to definately consider.

I like it too. Rod can move active threads there as soon as they start going south, so that the original poster officially knows he is in a train wreck, and all the subsequent posters will know as well. It can kind of be a "two strikes" warning for everybody.

Sounds like a good idea to me. If Rod were to move them as Jim suggested, I think it would work very well. Plus it would prevent those members who don't care for the flame wars from even reading them. And for those of us who love laughing our @sses off, all our entertainment is in one place. :D

I say we kill him!

Yeah!

I say we hang him, then we kill him!

Yeah!

I say we stomp him!

Yeah!

Then we tattoo him!

Yeah!

Then we hang him!

Yeah!

And then we kill him!

Yeah!

I say we let him go.

No!

Coping my "whipping post" forum I see....that's original!

It's a much needed houskeeping tool! ;)

Hehe,

Sounds like it doesn't it?

But actually, what I'm proposing is a repository for the actual self-destructing posts and not a place where "ass hats" are flogged in absentia. IMO, both implementations have their merits. I just think this idea fits better with what I've seen of this board and how it works. I know, I know. New guy talking. Take it for what it's worth.

LMAO on the "coping"...

As far as the idea goes, you know I'm a fan of it! LMAO

Ginseng, kind of like my "know your asshats" thread? LMAO

I know of a board that people can't post for 24 hours, maybe we should restricting posting to the Intro forums for the first 24 hours.

This also keeps newbies from clogging up the lobby and other threads. Plus maybe they won't PM or post everytime something goes up for sale...

just a thought.

Do you mean 24 hours of clock time or 24 hours elapsed on the forum? The latter could mean quite a bunch of time you'd have to put in before one could interact. If clock time, I'd say more than 24 hours. If forum time, I'd say something like 6 -12 hours. But then those who just log in and stay logged oculd build that up pretty quickly.

I think some limit should be imposed, but I don't think it should be too long. 24 hours maybe 48 hours of actual clock time. Any longer would discourage legitimate potential members. I know I would have probably moved on if I would have had to wait.

Not that I am any big asset here, but you guys may never have been graced with my presence :D if there would have been a lengthy time limit.

fwiw

We have one of these on forums we run -- we call it "Public Displays of Affection" -- it's only visible to the moderators, but it would be easy to make a forum that's read-only for the public as well.

The latter form seems to fit this forum better, IMO. The mod-only idea obviously wouldn't serve the general populace, at least not directly. Once the threads get locked and relocated here, then we'd get to read at our leisure.

I'm heartened that this idea is getting some consideration. :)
