Single malt scotch suggestions

I am somewhat new to scotch. I tried johnnie walker red label last year and didn't care for it. I would like to try something in the glenfiddich or glenlivet line. Something under $50 if possible, I would probably prefer it on the rocks when I am smoking a cigar. Just looking for some ideas before I go and buy something.
If you're just going to pour it over a glass of ice, find a 12 yr old blend like Chivas or JW Black. If you're looking for an entry level single malt to be enjoyed straight or with a splash of water I always recommend Dalwhinnie 15. It's very approachable for the beginner.

Doc makes a great suggestion. More years ago than I care to admit, I cut my scotch teeth on another in this family - Oban. Between that and a basic Macallan, or even a basic Glenlivet, you'd have some great entry levels on your hands and be hard pressed to find significantly better in that category.

I went and picked up the Glenfiddich 15yr. All I can say is Wow! It is very smooth and very flavorful. I just love putting my nose to it and taking a nice breath. I am smoking a Padron 6000 maduro and it really pairs well. I am trying to pick out the flavors in it but it may take me a while. This is exactly what I was looking for, something smooth but with enough flavor and depth to really make it enjoyable. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I will want to try some others when I am done with this bottle.

I finished the Glennfiddich, so I picked up a bottle of Dalmore 12 year, seemed like a good deal at $30. Has a little more bite than the Glenfiddich and a stronger aroma. My friend gave me a bottle of bacardi gold rum, it tasted bland compared to the scotch.

I've had this bottle of Laphroaig 10yr. sitting on my shelf for a year now and the last couple days I can't drink anything else without now being dissapointed.

Am I ruined? I keep trying to pour myself some of my Macallan 12 and Aberlour 12, but it's just not delivering now in comparison.

Laphroaig!!!!

A year ago I couldn't even get a sip down, now it's glorious!

Welcome to the dark side, my friend.
