That my sound weird guys =)
But I have "discover" this "way" to enjoy my cigar... Yes yes I know I should just probably kick back relax and just smoke it and not really think about it.
BUT, I actually found out that I enjoy the blend of the cigar and the whole smoking experience a little better.

Here goes, I don't time the in between the puff, but it a good 30 sec to a min, allowing the cigar to cool down a bit so I don't get the harsh, spiciness or the "je ne sais quois" that masks the other flavors.

So assuming that the cigar is "cold" I take a small primer puff to get it going, quickly release it slowly and breath it back in from the nose, this allows me to "get ready" and to be introduced to the flavor of the stogie.
While this is going on I take a longer puff (more generous smoke at this point), roll it briefly in my mouth and exhale it, and occasionally breath in a little, but its primarily to get a taste from my tongue. Following this I pause for a sec and brush my tongue on my upper palette to discover the aftertaste that last a little longer then the actual taste... I usually do 2 or 3 reps (depending on how cold it is) before letting it cool back down.

So when I review or taste a cigar I break it down to its nose, taste, aftertaste.

What do you guys think? Too complicated?

Don't forget to blow the smoke out your nose every once and a while. It will enhance the experience. I learned my technique from watching a video of Orlando Padron smoking. He took very short puffs, usually about three at a time, and always exhaled out of his nose. It works well for me.

Doc.

"quickly release it slowly", isn't that sort of an oxymoron?

But hey, whatever makes your cigar smoking experience better, go for it.

Yea that works too unless its a tat or don peppin... Spicy

ooops!
let edit this I meant
"quickly release it from you mouth (as in don't let it sit in your mouth) and then slowly breath it back in ( that's to prevent the "spike that can be found on stronger cigars)

=)

Nah man I am too illiterate for oxymorons

Yes. ;) Just keep the lit end out of your mouth and enjoy it.
I knew it LOL
But here is the thing... I found that some cigar could be enjoyed "Hot" while some other are better tasted while "Cold"
Here is what I mean, recently I smoked a Ashton tres mystique VSG... Man it was tasty! While I was puffing and puffing the cigar got warmer, it was sooo tasty that I did not want to let it rest! Well with that blend the cigar was still great! not harsh or spicy! Same with a Alec Bradley SCR.
While on the other hand I also tried a CAO Soprano, very sweet and silky cigar, the only problem with this on and some other cigar, if too "Hot" some other "bad" (IMH) taste came along the puff and ruined the smoothness and the sweetness of that one =)

So with my "procedure" it doesn't matter if its a cold or hot stogie =)
Plus I realize that it slows my smoking down... I relax better and enjoy better =)

I agree that there are some cigars that you can ride hard and they still aren't bad. I prefer taking it slow, unless i'm in a "mood." Sometimes you just want to stovepipe that thing to ashes. ;)

I prefer to clip the cap then punch the center. After removing the band I proceed to fire up both ends of the stick. Smoke it like a James Bond breathing apparatus. This technique produces volumes of smoke and can also save a plugged cigar. Warning, may cause hallucinations in new cigar smokers.

I would LOVE to see a picture of that!! :D

Seriously, that would be quite the picture to see :) Someone has to try it and let us know how that "technique" works out.

I thought you were going to say you were going to play the cigar like a flute.

I'll report back later this evening.

What happened to clenching the cigar between your teeth, taking shallow puffs whilst machine gunning enemies with a gun that never runs out of ammunition?

Am I the only one?

I suppose this is similar to what Doc said. Keep the cigar as practicably cool as possible. Two light, then a bit heavier sip. then I let the smoke drift out the nose and mouth. A much more profound experience.

I was just giving you a hard time man, I think we all were picking up what you were throwing down. If you truly get a better smoking experience by using this technique, then go for it. I will agree that most of the cigars I have enjoyed, which is few compared so some, I did prefer them to smoke a bit cooler.
