Last night I finally decided that I wanted to see what all the fuss was about so I went and bought a bottle of Glenlivet 12 yo.

I have had the Dalmore Cigar malt last week and I guess that's what prompted me to go ahead and pick up a bottle yesterday, that and my wife's boss was coming over and he's big on whisky & scotch. I figured I would let him show me a few things.

I was pretty impressed with it overall, especially after cutting it with a little water so the alcohol wasn't in the way of the flavor. I thought it tasted a little woody - not smokey or charred, but like fresh oak. There was a clear sweetness after each sip that was really nice.

It looks like I might get hooked on this stuff.

be careful, i'm just a noob when it comes to bourbon and whisky. My collection is a dozen bottles, 9 of which are bourbons.

Good for you Rob. I enjoy drinking scotch as much as smoking cigars. Together out by the pool is even better yet.

I've only lately started drinking scotch. I've been a bourbon man for quite some time, however I bought myself a bottle of Abelour 12 a few weeks ago and it lasted me about....three days? Extremely good scotch for the price ($39.99 local). Sweet and smooth, however a little medicinal. I started out neat, but ended up with a splash of water which really set it off. I've since bought a Cao Ila 18 which isn't as sweet and has a much peatier/maltier taste, but still nice, again with a splash of water. As of late I've gotten a bottle of of The McAllan 18, which I have to say is one that I'll definitely keep stocked. I've come across The McAllan 17 Fine Oak, however haven't opened it yet. The McAllan regardless of what age is immensely delicious! Went very well with my CAO Italia this evening! If the 24 is better than the 18, I think I will need to take out a second mortgage soon.

Check out the link to Mike Padlipsky's tasting notes. Happy smoking guys (and girls)!

The 25 is just very slightly better then the 18 and now, after the recent price increases, I can say it isn't $250+ a bottle better. JMHO
