Sad news here.

I always found him to be somewhat entertaining and he really seemed to care about the animals he worked with. I guess he died doing what he loved...

Wow, I can't believe this! I watch Steve all the time on the Discovery Channel. Pretty shocking news. Very sad indeed. What a shame.

I got to see him live at the Croceseum when I visited Brisbane and the Australia Zoo last Christmas. He really did love his animals and his work. It would be a shame if people turned this against the stingrays he was filming his new documentary about. As cheesy as he could be, he will be sorely missed.

I knew he was going to go out this way... but I always thought it would be a Mamba or a Croc that got him.

Loved his show and outlook on life, sad to see him gone.

Yes, we all knew he'd go out like this, and I'm sure he did too. He loved animals, and put himself right in the face of danger to bring his love to the masses. We all learned a lot about exotic and common animals and their behavior through his exploits, and we were lucky to have someone with his dedication to bring us along on his journey.

This guy was in his prime, what a shame, he will be missed.
Unfortunately his family have to suffer the loss.

Not really a surprise. His son is only like a year old as well. I hope he was not trying to get a spectacular shot like he used to do with crocs were he taunts them a bit to get them to lunge. He certainly did a lot to raise awareness of animals and the enviroment. Feel badly for his family but i bet his wife was omewhat prepared for something like this.

I have mixed feelings about how STEVE mixed education with entertainment. Risking his child with the crocodile was the last straw for me. RIP!

Man this is messed up. I feel kinda bad because I always thought he was just asking for something to happen to him by being so aggresive with dangerous animals.

People who were with him at the time say that he wasn't doing anything aggresive towards the stingray that was basicly buried under the sand and his chest came over its bard and. . .you get the picture.

One guy said he didn't even know the stingray was there beneath him :(

Crichey! A stingray!
Who's gonna wrassle reptiles with his lovely widow now?

Classy.

Apparently he was trying to get some footage for a kid's show he was doing with his daughter. He didn't even know the stingray was there and inadvertently boxed it in. From all accounts, he wasn't doing anything to "put himself in danger" as some would like to believe. Could have happened to anyone.

He contributed a lot to animal conservation and education. He will be missed by those who care about such things.
