Can the moderators please clear up what is considered vulgarity, curse words, etc. around here?

I think this will help a number of us and the clarification will be greatly appreciated.

Although I find censorship to be a violation of my rights, I do respect those who have set the rules of this site and maintain it, and I would like to better abide by them myself.

We do not like to see vulgarity posted on this forum. As an adult, I think we all know what is and what is not appropriate.

This site is privately owned and operated, yet made accessible to the general public. We do not believe in censorship either, however when it comes down to people blasting out on this forum in anger, we will do what we need to do, and if that means deleting an entire post or even thread, we will do just that. For the sake of keeping this a friendly place, your "rights" as an American are quite different than an online organization's rules and policy.

Let's all try and keep it clean on here. This is a cigar site, not a political debate forum.

Regards,
Rod

Thanks Rod. I appreciate your responding.

Your answer seems a bit open ended though so I guess I'll just stick w/ the cable TV mentality. If it can be said on cable it can be said here :)

Aww man Shadow :( . I was going to try and trade you for some of those St.Bernard '98 dog rockets you have. They should be coming along nicely by now. I'm sure the aroma is wonderful.

Something Rod said about rights got me thinking:
For the sake of keeping this a friendly place, your "rights" as an American are quite different than an online organization's rules and policy.

This is very similar to what happens at the Catholic School I work at. The students give up certain "rights" by walking on to our campus. The same could be said here. By becoming a member you are waiving certain rights. If you don't like it, well then, no one is forcing you to be a member. You are more than welcomed to take your violated rights and go elsewhere.

And for the record, this is not directed at anybody so please don't read it as such.

i'm sorry i stared all this by posting about his book, wasnt meant to start a flame war or nothing, so for what its worth im sorry

You didn't do anything wrong bro.

All anybody had to say was "Yeah, can't wait to read it, think I will employ a HDM DOUBLE CORONAS just like Ole Willy" OR "Blah, wouldn't read that garbage if ya paid me" Either way would be fine.

I was not offended in the least by anything in that thread, allthough the calling of a female as "Little Girl" is quite rude and gets on my nrves, but not really offensive. Either way, I suppose a Mod has thin skin so it is closed. But rest assured, it wasn't your fault.

I am sorry as well that I got carried away with the thread. I should have just said a simple "not likely" to the book question and ended it there.

Its really easy to get going on these Hot Button topics, and it sometimes can be fun to debate, but only in the right forum. I will try to shut my big yap in the future!

This forum is a lot more fun if we focus on what we all agree on, that cigars are an interesting and fun hobby, and that passing/bombing among friends makes life a little nicer. Lets focus on a thousand points of red, and have a kinder, gentler forum.

As for the profanity, I suggest using the "public television" language setting, as cable allows all sorts of vulgar verbage that isn't very nice.

Still not gonna read that book! :D

I as well want to apologize for any offense caused. It's a combination of the Cuban in me, the boxer in me, the attorney in me and, perhaps not necessarily in this order, the USMC in me - but I'm quick to react and seem to have no shortage of "hot buttons." :)

But, right is right and I agree 100% that this forum is truly not the place for such diatribes, monologues or debates. So, in this respect, I apologize.

Now, onwards and upwards. :)

You may have left out an "in me" or two, but I will just leave that one alone

I'm certain I left out several, so thank you for the compliment by minimizing it "or two." But, as stated earlier, I thought profanity was frowned upon.

Profanity doesn't bother me, yes, it is against the rules, but it probably offends far less people than Childish Name calling. ???

Of course that is JMHO

Got it - just YHO. Pointless in the scheme of things, but thanks anyways little man. Woops, there I go again. :sign: :sign: :sign:

Nah, kidding aside, you'd think people in this day could get over a little childish name calling, especially when it was motivated by content of thought/statements rather than at the person themself.

But, I digress. For what it's worth, I know Dawn and have spoken to her quite frequently. Oh yes, we've conversed backwards and forwards in the chat forum about her love of Rocky Horror and other sundries of life (and fights) in Allentown ad naseum. So, such a comment carried with it a HUGE grain of salt. But, never let it be said there are those holier-than-thou amongst us who take it upon themselves to find issue where there truly is none. NOTE, you didn't observe one comment about it from Dawn herself did you? Hmmm. Food for thought my friend, food for thought.

Again, I've apologized and am willing to move forwards. You want to take it further to what "in me's" I did or did not leave out, I'll be more than happy to address them with you further in pm's.

You guys should know better. When I say this, know that I say this having not once looked at the Clinton book thread.

First, did you care to read the boards policies? HAve you read it within the last 6 months? The policies can be ammended.

Second, on the the forums index page, the Lobby quotes this under it, "New to CP? Come on in and introduce yourself. This forum is for general discussion on most any topic. Please refrain from discussing politics and other "touchy" subjects, and they tend to cause flame wars." Comprende mis amigos? This means' regardless of what was said in what ever post that was lock, banned, deleted,...The post eventually dealt with politics or other touchy subjects. Which means, it doesn't matter what was said afer the initial post, there are grounds to lock the thread.

Third of all, Rod said it perfectly in his post. I have one addition to it though. Vulgarity is defined person to person. You can go by the classic efinition, but we are from different backgrounds. Rod has his beliefs, and for anyone who has been here long enough, you know what I mean. On the flip side, a lot of people here have less tolerance than Rod or other Adminisrators here. But if you notice, there are very few locked threads when compared to other sites. That is beacuse of self moderation. Sure, I get an ear full a lot when I post my 2 cents. And most of the time it is because I am giving it in mundane threads. If an admin/mod has to say something, it is because we failed as CP members. Vulgarity is judged on a bell curve. Those that are really conservative know that, those that are on the extreme other side know that as well. What is vulgar is decided by who is in the middle.

From my time here, I have gauged that Rod is liberal in one fact. Members at CP have a right to free speech. But if you free speech impedes on the well being of the majority at CP, then you can expect a modereate dose of moderation. If you have any questions, PM me. This is not a debate or public discussion.

Sure it is a public discussion, were it not so, you yourself would not be discussing it in public :0 :D

For what it is worth, in my past there are circumstances that temper what I am offended by, as is the case with everyone else. But I am for a Kinder Gentler Nation/Board/society. By that I mean, if what you are about to say will demeen or otherwise upset someone else, then Shut Up. That way we will refrain from causing any kind of rift and life will be grand.. ;)

Unfortunately, very few subscribe to my ideals. :(

I myself transgress from time to time, and there is usually someone standing by to "kindly" tell me so.

Where is the  man?

Or not so kindly... now where did I put my Purobrat boot... :p

Oh man, am I gonna get Booted again, geeze :p

Nothing wrong with keeping me in-line, I can use it sometimes

Emo my brother, you and I have been through a lot here, bad and good. I can only hope that the good outweighs the bad. :D

Self policing is certainly better than the alternative, besides, you at least are a true member of the peacekeeping forces ;)

I believe the moderators here have been doing a fine job. I'm not a prolific poster on threads, but I read them as regularly as I can. I believe the "leave and let live" policy here is just fine. If you want to see a place with some strict moderation, try America's Debate This discussion group, of which I'm a member, has some tight standards. If you don't back up your views with hyperlinks or degrade anyone in any way, you are called on it. Some prefer strictness, but I think a "looser" policy is good for this kind of forum. :D
