Brothers, friends... this is request is not for me, but for my brother Jim. He is 77 and in Stage 5 of Parkinson's ( or PK ). Jim is my second brother, have another brother Jeff who is 67, lives in Vegas and has met @wrussell46 . Jim on the other hand has lived and worked in Buffalo NY all is life ( with the exception of service in the Navy 68-72 and did four tours in Viet Nam ( and he was up close and personal with Agent Orange and a 60 cal. machine gun while hauling troops to the drop off points. ). When he retuned he went to work for a local locksmith company and became a Master Locksmith.
The other side of Jim is he was a smart, sharp as a tack kind of guy who could do so many things including building his own home. He knew how to make a bad situation with joints and joices, run wires, hand heavy shit etc. Mr. Handyman and if you needed help all you had to do is ask. He was there if you needed him.
Got to share one thing, not to brag, just share. Already mentioned he was a Master Locksmith. How good was he? So good that the City of Buffalo gave him a police badge because there were sending him to state prisons for special work, so if he got into a jam on the highway he had a get out of jail free badge. Twice he was called in by the FBI ( no shit) to open a bank value security box. The story goes there are at least 5 local police and three FBI agents all standing there while he worked his magic on the box. Once opened they stopped him and said move away, we don't what you to see what we find in there. Yes, it was mob related if you were left wondering.
He enjoyed going out for chicken wings and a beer ( or two ). Easy laugh and listened when you were telling your story. Good guy to hang with.
About five years ago the tremors began. No history in our family of anything and the medical community jacked around because PK just don't come out and say what it is, but then came stage 2 and there was more evidence to support a diagnosis. PK has five stages that can take its sweet time, or it can come on like a freight train. The real bitch is there is just short of nothing that can be done to fix it. The Dopa drugs can attempt to relieve some symptoms but it is iffy and the dosage is just as iffy. So he got on the drugs which help to a point, but PK moved on and he just deteriorated over time.
So what is Stage 5? In a few words it means you can not do jack shit anymore without help. Your muscles deteriorate to where he has no ability to even use his fingers let alone his legs. He is now in a rehab/nuring facility as he can not be properly cared by his wife at home. If you Google PK you will fine almost nothing but a few brief articles on diet suggestions and mentioning the stages and what to expect when they occur. Yes, medically they know a particular area of the brain is involved and that the Dopa family of drugs work as much as they can, but there is currently no fix.
Have written my epistle the logical thing to ask for is special help, prayers. If you have them, please cash in a few for Jim. And I go through all this typing and the guy don't even smoke cigars!
Thanks guys. Will try to include a photo if I don't mess things up. Photo 1 Jim is 4th from left, second photo he is far right and youngest brother Jeff is in the back.
