Help..........
Can somebody please tell me why my cigar outer wrappers are splitting
My humidors run at about 69 % humidity and 71 temp
Not all my cigars are doing this. At the moment it is my Carlos Toranos. I am a bit worried about this as they cost me a lot of money to import from USA.
Would it help to leave the cello wrap on?
Thanks to all who answer
(ps to "Infinity" I found the shift key) :)

I think it has something to do with bringing a cigar from a controlled humidified to an environment that has a drastically different humidity. There is a thread somewhere here on cpass, but I forgot where I read it.

edit - found a link that might help

I would do a search on "split" for the answers you're looking for.

The short of it is, as Dave has elluded to, that wrappers are prone to splitting if they're taken from a humidor, and smoked in a cold and/or dry environment.

Cameroon wrappers are particularly prone to this. Not sure if that's what your Toraños are wrapped with though...

Thanks for the answers.
The wrapper on the Torano's are "Criollo", and it is splitting in my Humidor. I have had a couple swell and split half way down (Robusto) as i am smoking them, after reading up, I realise that going from my humidor to the outside (sydney summer,Dry and Hot),I should maybe let them rest for a while before lighting up.
Cheers

A number of people use a dry box for their cigars before smoking them. The only problem with that is having to plan out what you want to smoke.

A dry box is a good idea for summer time over here,as i only smoke around 6 cigars per week it would be ideal for me.Some more info on where to buy or download spec's for one would be very much appreciated.
Cheers

Good on you for the reply "AVB".
the only pages i can find on dry box bring up diving, photography and chemical gear?.But that could be my shit search engine.

I don't think you did a search here then. I get a topic exactly called Dry Box among about 10 others. I did give you credit to search only the Humidor forum. Was I mistaken in my belief?

Sounds like he went a Googling when the answer was here on this board.

I would drop down your humidity to around 65%. I used to keep mine much higher, 68-69%, and experienced split wrappers several times during the dry winter months. You'll also benefit from a better draw and even burn at a lower humidity.

Yes i did go googling in sorry.
some times i am a bit like a computer....you have to punch the information into me.....
I did find what i was looking for. thanks to you all for you comments
