So I get this PM last week from Swissy sayin' that Blue Dragon is comin' to town and would I like to make the trip to Homer on his boat, the Swissy Baroo. Um...lemme think...uh...yeah, that would be somewhat pleasant.
What a weekend! Lots of clouds and rain but we made up for it with fishing, cigars, food, and libations. I was supposed to meet up with the guys in Homer Friday evening but I decided to get an early start and grab a pic or two on the drive. It started out pretty enough as I was driving along the Turnagain Arm of Cook Inlet...but it started clouding up once I hit the Kenai Peninsula. Still, I was able to get a couple of okay snapshots, including some fireweed that was blooming like crazy...
There was a lot of wildlife to be seen while we were out...like gulls, murres, loons, and puffins. I even got to see my first humpback whale breach, blow, and sound. Unfortunately, the action was over before I could get my camera. However, I did manage to capture images of a momma sea otter with her young'n as we passed...
Jim's sister and brother-in-law were kind enough to put me up at their place for the weekend. As I was getting ready to come home Sunday morning, there was a short break in the clouds that made for a pretty sunrise, so I made a panorama from their back deck...
You're lookin' across Kachemak Bay and if you look closely, you can see two or three glaciers in the mountains. The photo doesn't do it justice, really. Beats the heck outta my squinty-eyed-winter-time view of the Knik Arm.
Thanks again, Jim!
