I'm trying to educate myself a little on Tat's since they're one line I really haven't tried until now. I took some recommendation as well as fav's I saw on a few of the other forums. I picked up a couple of the J21's and the first I smoked was good. Not "fantastic" for an $11 - $12 cigar, but it was on par with other cigars I've smoked in that price range. I smoked the second last night, since I hadn't smoked all day and I really wanted a better chance to experience the cigar relaxing at home. It started out ok, but after the first half it started tasting kind of funky. After two thirds it was almost like a processed taste that had me really thinking about not finishing it. Anybody want to share their thoughts?

Thanks,
Walt

I have had nothing but luck as these are probably my favorite Tat. I am smoking from a box I bought last year and they are awesome. How was your storage of these? How was the storage of them before they were yours?

These are definitely my favorite of the brown labels. I've only had one but it was excellent and out performed any other brown label tat I've ever had (besides the latest Reservas).

X2. These are quite tasty. Last night I had another Noella Reserva nothing but good things to say about that stick.

Not sure exactly what happened with that stick. As I said, I enjoyed the first one that I smoked but the one last night had almost a chemical taste to the last 1/3 of it. I've got a Noella left and a Tat Black that was sent to me. I'm looking forward to smoking the both of them.

I have to agree with the others its a good stick, maybe you got few that were not taken care of??? Id rather smoke a bad TAT than almost any other cigar!!LOL

The J21 is one of the few cigars from Pete Johnson that I do not like. I've had several in the last year and every one of them has been overly spicy, harsh coco flavor and balanced well. All of them have been that way and they have all come from different places so that takes storage out of the equation. I just don't like 'em. Now the reservas, they are fucking awesome. Try the el trunfidores if you like the Reservas.

Like every thing else in life taste is subjective. It might be the J21 isn't for you. I am a pretty big fan of all things Tat, but that's me. Last year Opus was the cat's ass IMO, but after a few flat ones this year am starting to see the the truth. Like a wise old man told me ;) , "for every fantastic Opus I have smoked, I have 5 that were mediocre" and then he feed me a smoked hot dog.

Anyway, try giving them a break and revisiting them after some time. Also it could just be you, I know from time to time things all go bland for me...be it cigars or food, things just kinda get "meh" and then a week or so later taste are back.

I absolutely love this cigar, I had one for the first time the other day and enjoyed it all the way to the nub. This might be my favorite Tat but then I haven't tried all of them yet. Klipsch, it was the opposite for me, it started out very spicy for me but then mellowed out and tasted fantastic after about 15 minutes. Well, I guess it's not for everybody...

I really like these as well, one of my favorite Tats. I bought a box a few months ago and am already through almost half of it... not having much luck saving them for some age lol. Maybe they're just not for you... but trying them again after some down time would offer a better perspective. And I agree about the Opus thing.. I've had one or two that were great but overall they haven't been the best for me. The Anejo on the other hand... mmmm.

I'm trying to figure out where I said I didn't like the cigar...

Well, you said it had a "processed" taste and was "funky" . . . oh, I almost forgot, you described it as "chemical" as well. In the first post, you said you thought about not finishing the cigar. Unless you usually don't finish cigars you like and you prefer a funky, chemical tasting cigar, I guess we can assume that you weren't pleased with your experience and did not particularly care for the cigar. ;)

I have smoked enough Tats to know that some are awesome and some aren't so great. I had a Regios Reserve the other day that had a mineral type taste . . . I did not finish it. Who knows what the issue is? I've just chalked it up to a dud cigar that you get from time to time.

I have to agree with everyone posting on this topic, the J21 is one of my absolute favorites in the Tatuaje line. Although, I've had a couple that we're duds that I got from a 5er. I'm still sitting on a box of these.
