Hey all I will be visiting Memphis and Nashville nest weekend.
Flying into Nashville and driving to Memphis on Friday. In Memphis til monday and will kick around Nashville for the day.

Any suggestions on food, bars, strip clubs, cigar joints for me? Any must do suggestions appreciated as well!
I would really like to eat some excellent BBQ and whatever regional specialties there are!

Anybody want to meet up for a mini-herf?

-Rob

When I lived outside of Memphis these are the places I would go for the best BBQ in the city. In no particular order

The Rendezvous
52 South Second Street
(General Washburn Alley)
Memphis, TN 38103
901-523-2746
Closed Sun - Mon

Corky's Bar-B-Q
5259 Poplar Ave
Memphis, TN 38119
901-685-9744

Cozy Corner
745 North Pkwy
Memphis, TN 38105
901-527-9158

Interstate Bar-B-Q
2265 S 3rd St
Memphis, TN 38109
901-775-2304

Leonard's Pit Barbeque
5465 Fox Plaza
Memphis, TN 38115
901-360-1963

Several of us are located in between Mermphis and Nastyville, Tennisshoe.
That would be in Jackson Tn, about an Hour outside Memphis.
I would suggest a few places here, but it just sucks, so I would hold out until Memphis for some eats. Only one decent cigar bar, But it does Brew its own Beer and has some good food.

IMHO Interstate Bar-B-Q is the best in Memphis. It is a no frills but their Q is fine. The Rendezvous is next...Might see some famous folks in there. There is also a place called The Dancing Pigs in Midtown...Good dry rubbed ribs.

If you're looking for a nice cigar shop check out the Tobacco Corner located at 669 South Mendenhall Road. It's the oldest shop in Memphis...A great selection of cigars.

Several of us are in Jackson, Tennesse about halfway between Nashville and Memphis.

Thanks guys!
Keep the good suggestions coming!
Any good touristy stuff to do besides Graceland... Is Graceland even worth it?
Rendevous was the one on my list...
Anything good in Nashville? or should I concentrate on Memphis?
-Rob

The rendevous has my vote. You may have to ask a local to find it.

Graceland is cool remember it was big in the 60/70's by today's standards it may surpise you. The planes are cool too. (from downtown-- take a shuttle (if still running) no wrong turn in the wrong neighborhood )

You should get your bearings on this trip and plan to go back for Memphis in May. Beale street blues Festival.

Fried pickles and BB King's place rock!!

My parents used to live there and I agree... get a ride if you are going to Graceland because it is in a pretty rough part of town. Memphis in May is a BLAST. My parents would always take people to the Peabody Hotel to watch the ducks walk out. I guess they keep these ducks to swim in the pond (they live in a penthouse I guess). Every morning and evening, they roll out a red carpet and walk the ducks through the lobby... Not my cup of tea, but some folks thought it was cool. There is a cool piano bar on Beale St that we used to go to a lot. Really that whole street is a big party any weekend night. Great blues music at every bar.

You boys are all sorts of outta wack on this one.
You just gotta get on Hwy 78, get the hell out Memphis, and head straight to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and go to Dreamland BBQ.
Sure, there's one B'Ham too, but ain't nothing finer than the original there in T-Town. Right by the finest University in all of the SEC. ;)
Best ribs and wonder bread you'll ever have. Period.

Edited to add -

'Sides...the drive to Tuscaloosa from Memphis will take you through Tupelo...so you can forget Graceland and Sun Studios (and Stax for that matter) for a few days and go back to the roots of the boy. ;)

I forgot that one strip club in Nashville...kinda close to Vandy campus I guess...have that slogan on their sign about four or five purty girls and one ugly one...something along those lines. Anyway, it's a landmark. Been there forever.

'Course, if you head towards Tuscaloosa like I recommended, you can go to the outskirts of town to Wesley's Booby Trap...out on Hwy. 78 in Dora, Al. That place is as country as country gets. They even got wood sticks in the middle of the tables for you to bang on the table with when you like the little ol' gal that's dancin' in front of ya. Kinda catty-corner from them is a great little hamburger and root-beer float place too, unless of course you done had your fill from Dreamland.

The club you're talking about is the Deja Vu, "thousands of beautiful girls, one ugly one". Haven't been there in years, but if memory serves me correctly, it's a nice place.
On a seperate note, if you're looking for some nice places in Nashville, go downtown to Broadway and 2nd Ave. That's the "touristy" part of town. But some very cool bars and clubs. There are several cigar friendly places downtown as well.

The Beer Sellar on 2nd Ave, Buffalo Billiards, The Flying Saucer, and several others.

If you need more info, just let me know. Iwould love to meet up with a BOTL for a little mini-herf this weekend, but I will be out of town. Go figure...

So I survived the South...
Tried Rendevous BBQ... DAMN GOOD! Had ribs and the BBQ nachos (pork).
Gus' Fried Chicken - A lil salty but DAMn good!
Platinum Plaus strip club - pretty damn good!
Raidford's - pretty damn weird!
Smoked some good NCs... Smoked a LGC figurado, Sosa #2, Hemingway SS, and a LFD. I smoked in every bar I was at and was only hassled about my cigar smoking at one place The Flying Saucer. That place was supposed to be 'cigar friendly'. I finished my smoke anyways LOL. I guess you aren't supposed to smoke in the restaurant area? It was late, I was drunk so I didn't care much!
-Rob

They hassled you at the Flying Saucer? What a bunch of jackasses, they sell cigars there for on premise comsumption! I'll take my beer drinking and cigar smoking elsewhere! Glad the rest of the trip was good!

I liked the place...
Maybe I was chastised because I was smoking by the dart boards...
Not sure if you could smoke at the bar... she made it seem you could only smoke in the front area.
When she said something I was like, "But you sell cigars here." Her response was that it wasn't her rules...
I would find out more about TFS before boycotting it completely... It did seem like a decent place!
