Well, my Turkey Day started off a bit rough, and managed to turn into complete chaos for a few hours. Everything was going pretty well until the first of my guests arrived...my 4 year old daughter came running from her bedroom in excitement...she tripped over the area rug in the living room at full speed and did a face plant into the corner of our coffee table...I was about ready to pass out from all the blood :0 . My wife came out of nowhere and scopped her up, and before I could blink she was out the door with her on the way to the ER :( . So, I am standing there with what seems like millions of people arriving by the minute, and my daughter on the way to the hospital. I was a complete wreck.

About 1 1/2 hours later my wife comes back with the little one, one CT scan and 5 stitches later she was doing much better. She thankfully did not have a concussion, and two deep but small cuts that should not scar too bad.

The rest of the evening went fairly well, and my 4 year old had a story to tell everyone that had missed the excitement.

Glad she's going to be OK. I had a similar incident when I was about 5 or so. I can't even tell you how many stitches I had gotten before I was 10 years old. Luckily, my little boy has not inherited my "sense of adventure" and has remained stitch free so far. (knock on wood!)

Damn kids, they can really scare the crap out of you sometimes!

Wow Eric I am glad everything turned out ok. There is nothing scarier then when a little one gets hurt and you aren't sure how bad it is.. Here's to a better day today!

Eric, I am glad she's OK, I have been there and I was a nervous wreck as well when it happened. But then I had a son and things like that happened (what seemed like) weekly.

Hope you havin a better day bro.
Tim

Hey man,
I'm sorry to hear that (and if its any consolation to you, when I ran as a child I ALWAYS led with my head!!). I hope she's doing much better.

Now, as a doctor of Optometry, please check the following so that you've covered all the bases:

1) do eye motility tests to make sure there is no diplopia, impinged extra ocular muscles.

2) by all means have a dilated fundus exam done to be sure there is no retinal damage (detachment/tears/schisis). Trust me on this, better to be safe than sorry!

Just a part of me being a doctor....
Warmest regards,
Darren

Glad to hear that all ended well. Now you have a story to tell for years to come. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your Thanksgiving.

Hi, Eric! I am very glad to learn that your daughter is doing much better now. I also had a few scary accidents when I was a little kid. Ouch! I sincerely hope that the rest of the holiday season is happy and pleasant for you and your family. Take care. Regards, knightlaird

Damn, out of the ER in an hour and a half??!! Your wife must be one hell of a gal! Every trip to the ER with one of my family cost 10+ hours - hang nail or heart attack. I should know cause I'm a Level 1 Trauma Surgeon!

I'm glad it turned out ok.

Thank you all for the thoughts and messages. We have had her checked by our family eye doctor, and all seems to be well and in order. She is scheduled to have the stitches removed this Thursday....I figure it will take me and 6 or 7 other people to hold her down for that ???. She is amazingly strong for a 4 year old :D.
