It seems every other month I am calling charter cable company having a heart attack. When I first got the service turned on, I got it for $40 for a year with what I have now. They jacked it up to $60, I downgraded it was $30, then it went up to $50, downgraded to $40, then finally got stuck at $50 for awhile, now it's $80! Nothing has changed. All I have is cable TV and the lady is telling I can get internet and digital TV (which I currently have) for $80 for six months??

Is Dish better?

Dish Network always adds a little fee here and there, but I wouldn't go back to Charter Cable if they paid me $80 a month.

My parents never had Dish when I was younger, but they've switched and she loves it... Just makes me wonder if all companies in this type of industry do these things because they know people won't live without it

Are you with Comcast? They're comcraptic and the monopoly anywhere I freakin move. I moved to VA where it was adelphia, so I got them, and then comcast bought them. They were screwing around with our rates too but we're stuck with them because dishes won't work with our tree cover.

I had direct TV and switched to dish network. I really like it. The only complaint I have is in a bad storm it goes out or it it snows heavy i have to go clean the snow out of it.

I have Insight cable (which I hate) but it gets so windy here, that a lot of people who have a dish are constantly having problems with it.

No, I have Charter now. Comcast is offered all around me, and to be honest, if I could get it, I'd probably try it just to hurt Charter's business.

Does anyone have Windstream? I always see commercials for them but they aren't offered here either.

....guess I'm one of the only guys that actually likes my Comcast hook up. We get High Def cable TV and have a DVR in the cable decoder. A couple of premium channels. Got cable internet service and it's smokin' fast. All my buddies keep telling me to "get satellite" but I'm pretty fond of our cable internet service.

Sure, I could complain about the price but I feel like we get plenty of enjoyment for the monthly fee.

We have had DishNetwork for about 6 years now. We've had very few outages due to weather and no other outages that I can remember. I think it mainly depends on your site and the ability of the installer to get the best signal.

We just upgraded to a DVR unit for free and will actually have a little lower monthly payment than before. They did this just to keep me from switching to DirecTv. We have the top package (without the pay channels) with 2 TVs and the DVR for less than $60/month before taxes and other stuff. It comes out to about $65 with all that added.

We've been very happy with it.

Can you get internet through them?

I'll be moving in a couple months and since we'll be out of town, cable won't be an option, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to get internet, as well as TV out there.

Sorry for the mini-thread jack.

We got a deal on DSL with a partner company (Earthlink), but I'm not sure if they have satellite internet. I'm sure they have that info on their website. My brother in law has satellite internet through Wild Blue or something like that. He's been happy with it...

I with you on this bro! We have internet, cable, and we just switched our home phone to Comcast Digital Voice as well!!! So we are are saving some coing by bundling all three together.
2 HD DVR's, amazing HD picture quality, and programing... I'm pretty happy with what I get for the $$$!!!

We HAD Cablevision in NJ. Horrible selection and the price kept going up. We told 'em to disconnect and they offered 6 more months at half price to keep us, so we said OK. 6 months later we told 'em to disconnect and they offered another 6 months FOR FREE so we said OK. 6 months later we told 'em to disconnect and I guess they couldn't do better than free so they finally pulled the plug. We all went through withdrawal but are now satisfied with our rabbit ears and about 10 channels off the air.
I haven't seen any programing worth paying for.

Directv since day one and Hughesnet for internet. Totals $110 a month for both.

Did you pay $899.99 for the dish and recievier back in '94 like I did? I have no regrets, picture quality is excellent! I think I have had maybe 2 price increases since '94. Hey AVB do you remember the jump in PQ "back in the day"when the jumped from mpeg 1 to 2? Very nice!

Got mine on "sale" 3 days before it was released for $699.99. I do remember the jump from 1 to 2 and now 4!

I bypassed the coupon and went with the "Instant Gratification Package" . Also , I have an over sized dish to compensate(no pun) for rain fade. I have never had any signal issue's with Directv during a snow fall or heavy thunderstorm, only do I have an issure with dishnetwork during heavy thunderstorms do I have issues, however, since I have their super dish for international channels(wife) and the angle the super dish needs to "grab" specific signals from satelites and I don't think my dish is dialed in as good as it can be. This fall '07 Directv will be a major player with 70 HD channels available for most of the continental US you may want to take the plunge. Just be aware of the "commitment" you make with either satelite provider, you could be locked in for a couple of years...just like a cell phone provider.

After 10 years with Direct TV we switched to Dish, like it better so far. Our area's phone systems are still being "updated" so we could not get a complete bundle package throught AT&T for tv, phone and internet. The Wild Blue is through AT&T and its equipment prices are roughly 200 - 300 if I remember correctly. For now, no net at home because I am refusing to pay for cable internet when the speeds start going down at 9:30 at night till 1 in the morning.

Today I finally broke the chains of oppression, and got rid of charter. My cable bill has been climbing every month and Dish called my office doing promotions so I took it. $40 a month for two years, with a DVR. I'm excited, and I can't wait to take the cable boxes up there and return them. Free at least!
