At what price is a cigar considered a premium?

Based on price only, at what point do you think "Premium" cigars start at? Something else to think about, if the cigar lists at $15 and you get it for $9, is it still a Premium?

FYI, the polling are doesn't like a leading $.
 
I think all the cigars I smoke are premium. They are not Backwoods or anything like that. Those I would consider regular cigars. I think I read somewhere that those gas station cigars account for 95% of all cigar sales. The stuff most of us smoke (Padron, Fuente, etc.) would be considered premium. Then above those you would have Super Premium which is what I think you are asking. For example, PAM vs. Padron, Opus vs Fuente, etc.

Anything around $150 a box IMO. After that it starts getting to the super premium and Ultra Premium stuff. Rarity also plays a big role in pricing. Ask "BMM" aka -Big Money Moki ;)

Somewhere in the 8-9 dollar range, that's where the Opus and the 64's start .

RASCC
Punch Coronas
Punch PC's
SLR Regios

and many more ;)

When Ricmac25 and I were at Foxwoods last month, we went into their cigar shop. Without excpetion, everything in there was double what you'd pay for in a cigar shop and triple what you can get them for from the big internet retailers.

I guess everything they were selling was super premium :sign:

Did anyone else take Cubans into consideration??? I was only answering for domestics ($9.00). I had the same justification as ric - that's where PAx and Opi start. :)

Actually, no, the thought did not occur to me. In all honestly I would consider most of the premium or better. I would rather have a Quintero than a lot of the so called super premium domestics.

Quick answer, $8. I think I read that on here somewhere as a guideline.

Asking this question is like saying, at what yardage in a season are you considered an elite running back?

I mean a thousand yard rusher is a sort of defining point but what about TDs scored, winning record, yards per carry (Eddie George is a good example of a 1000 yard rusher with horrible ypc), number of long runs (over 20 yards), number of first downs, etc. What you have done in past seasons. etc etc etc

I am in full-tilt fantasy mode thus the comparison.

Not that I agree or disagree, but, this one hit it on the head.

Premium is a relative term

One man's dogrocket is another man's Primo...as can be seen by the poll.

You'll NEVER find a definitive answer to this question.
 
I'm not sure about you guys, but I don't really categorize my smokes like that.

Instead of these categories:

Dog Rocket
Yard Gar
Everyday Smoke
Go To Smoke
Social Smoke
Special Smoke

Or even these categories:

Quality
Premium
Super Premium
Ultra Premium

I use this type of classification:

In - Laws
Bar Gars
Social Gathering
Friends
At Home on the Porch with the Beautiful Wife and a Cold Sam Adams

All BS aside.........I like to buy a cigar from a couple of smoke shops at their insane SoCal prices to stay in their loop. But, I buy most of my sticks from JR and Famous now. And once in a while delve into some serious Federal Law Breaking and order up a box of Cubans.

I like to buy boxes in the $65 - $150 range. I can find most everything I smoke in this bracket (Partagas Black, LGC Wavell & Serie R, Pimp Sticks, etc). But, lately, I've been getting the itch to spring for a $350 box of Davidoff Millenium Blends :p

I say Premium is $4.50 - $7.00/ea. That puts a box of 25 at $112.00 - $175.00.

Since this was a poll, the question is directed at the person choosing to answer. It isn't where I feel the Premium level starts at (within the poll limits) but where YOU feel it does. So while over all it is relative to the group is is singular to the individual.

My bias was the reason that I didn't include smokes under $6 each because I didn't feel they could be a premium. Obviously, some disagree and have noted in their comments.

I think JoeM had the best answer. It's all relative to your comfort level in spending.
If you smoke $10.00 cigars everyday then it's not a premium to you.
