The most recognizable pro sports team in the world?

If we are picking a US sports team then I would say the LA Lakers... basketball is the second biggest sport in Europe and also getting popular in South America. You could probably make a case for the Yankees although most Europeans don't even know what baseball is... big in Japan though.

I meant and should have said U.S. teams only, I kind of conceded that soccer prevails in other parts of the world.

Then it would have to be the Yankees and Cowboys. Also the most despised to more than a few.

I would be a member of that group.

As much as it pains me to say this - I would have to also say the Yankees.

I base my opinion on this - other than the Pirates and Steelers (local teams) the Yankees logo is just about the only other team emblem that I would bet money on that my girlfriend would recognize.
