I think it's great that you guys are doing this. It's a lot of fun and really in the spirit of things.

Having said that (and it's sincere), here's my take:

With all that has been going on around here lately ( girls selling fake Cohibas, newbie meltdowns, etc. ) I thought it would be a good idea to show some of the "new" newbies something that we did back in the spring. Newbie P.I.F. Mega Bomb. I'm sure you guys remember 7 of us hitting Swissy with some bombs. I pm'ed 13 newbies and got 10 positive responses for the upcoming action. I really am impressed with the enthusiam in which these guys responded and am also a little disappointed with the other 3 but that's beside the point. These guys wanted to show the community that they are above what has been going on recently and really want to become active members here at CP without being lumped in with the ones that have been shown the door lately. With that being said, we now have the Newbie Pay It Forward Mega Bomb II. There are 12 of us split into 2 groups, one is being led by jfields, the other by me. We have picked 2 targets this time around and will launch our strike on Monday morning. Once again this is to show our appreciation for what we've been shown, learned, and the fellowship of a great community. No one is trying to out do another and no one is looking for any kind of retalliation. The reason I am posting so far in advance is so y'all can wonder all weekend who it will be.
These sentences are completely unnecessary and I can see how they would be insulting to someone. The whole idea that those participating "wanted to show the community that they are above what has been going on recently and really want to become active members here at CP without being lumped in with the ones that have been shown the door lately" is great. I'm all for it. There are other ways to do that besides sending bombs. As has been said many times, one doesn't gain status here through bombing. It comes through participation and one's ability to not show their ass every chance they get. It is very easy to interpret these words in the way at least one person has interpreted them. That is the limitation of this type of communication. Why even mention that some didn't want to participate? It really serves no purpose other than making them feel bad about refusing to play. That isn't what this place is about.

I really am impressed with the enthusiam in which these guys responded and am also a little disappointed with the other 3 but that's beside the point.

Buy someone a notch cigar every week or be lumped into the group of people who got chased out the door?
I know everyone in this forum doesn’t have that option so I’m not going to hold it against the forum.
Like I told Jonsey If people are going to run me off or put me down for being a newbie, I don’t want anything to do with them anyway. And I sure as hell am not going to buy them expensive cigars so they don’t mess with me or run me off.
This forum is about cigars and consuming and storing cigars it is a social thing this is not trading million dollar cigar production secrets, it about sharing consumer knowledge on a hobby correct me if I wrong.
I seems like Jonsey and a few of you guys take this a little too serious.
I just joined to read about cigars make and some friends. I don’t care about moving up some social latter or having some guy with abizillion posts think I’m cool.
I just wanted to give a little feed back because it made me feel like some guy was fleecing the new guys for cigars in the name of the group and acting like he will put people down if they don’t but into his game. A lot of us have families and bills and don’t have extra money every week to be playing games like this. And some of us just might not want to play.
Welcome to CP buy us cigars or be in a category that gets run out.
Have fun with that Jonsey.
It's been explained how wrong you are here, birdd. I hope you hang around long enough to see it for yourself.

Some of the responses to birdd's post are also disappointing. Defend your friends, that's fine, but try to do it without being out of line yourself.

There's been a lot of hostility around here lately (most of it completely justified) and some of those telling others to grow thick skin in the meltdown threads really need to take their own advice. I've been here for almost two years now and I'm still a newbie. Some people need to remember that as well.

I'm stepping off my soapbox now.

Wow, this was the greatest gift I have had all day!! i wish I was here to watch all this go down. "Big Bird" or bbird I think you have shown this community what kind of asswat you really are. Brian is one hell of a man and if you don't want to participate in the bomb that is cool, from what you have posted I don't think any member here wants to receive a bomb from you. I hope you enjoy your stay if you haven't already left.

This thread is better than the novella's that my girlfriend and her mother watch!

Buy someone a [top]notch cigar every week or be lumped into the group of people who got chased out the door?...

<in my best Brooklyn accent>
That's just your weekly "insurance payment". How else do you expect to be guaranteed that no bad fogs will come to your house and steal your cigars or burn down your humidor? Don't make us send Jonesy over to collect.

bbird, nobody's extorting cigars from newbies. Honestly, I don't see how you could conceive of such a thing. Is genuine appreciation and selfless generosity really so foreign a concept? Yours may be the most bewildering post I've ever read, I mean seriously, you can't really think that. I don't know what more can be offered you that hasn't already been said to help you see just how far off the mark you are.

I just wanted to clarify my statement here so you know why I added it and then we're gonna shut the door on this whole mess. The reason I added the part about pm'ing 13 ,getting responses from 10, and being disapponted with the other 3 is because I was disappointed. 2 of the 3 hadn't replied to me by the time I made my the post and the other was bbird. His pm to me was damn near identical to the post he made so this little "additon" ( which I agree was unneccesary ) was pointed at him. If all three hadn't replied, I would never had added that to my post, but what he said to me just pissed me off and I guess I wanted to show that even while trying to do something good there was someone still being an ass. This had nothing to do with him not having cigars, not having money, too many bills, a family, a job, or just not wanting to participate ( all things he stated in his post), this was about him not participating because he was going to send anything to anyone when all people around here were going to do was run him off ( his quote to me in pm and in his post ). Now as far as all of us sending these bombs to gain status, it certainly wasn't meant to do that or even look that way for that matter. My objective in this whole ordeal was to pull some newbies together and try to establish a little comraderie between them like the war did for some of us. All of us have seen what's been going on around here lately, so what better way to get some of the new guys to participate, join together, and hopefully make a friend or two, than to have an organized run like this. To me, the bombing run is the secondary issue here...the first is to pull some good guys together that don't want to be remembered for joining CP during a run of asshats joining and show them what it's like to Pay it Forward. I apologize for this hiccup that we've encountered here in the middle of something that was supposed to be for the greater good of the newest newbies and CP.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

I don't care what nobody says...
Jonesy, you are all right in my book, and really, what other book is there...............

Tim

Jonesy is good people, i know his intentions are for the best of this community. I would venture to say that most folks who bomb do it to show gratitude and 'welcome' folks to CP (one's that appear to be adding value / sticking around and being a member in good standing), and usually you send out more than you get, so if folks bomb as a way to get better cigars or gain status, chances are they aren't here long or flame out. It's very clear to me this place is a great brotherhood of caring / sharing individuals that form great friendships, even without actually meeting each other. Personally, i've made some friends here that are better friends that other buddies bwhom i've known all my life.

Now if some folks here don't wanna participate, that's cool, there's plenty of B/SOTL that are great members that don't bomb, it's definitely not required or expected, but handling things properly is. Now, coming from me, that's ironic as i got off to a rough start here, so even if you screw up here, if you stick around and participate (being a member here, not bombing necessarily, bombing is PURELY optional) then you will be forgiven and accepted here, and if you 'get it', you will not be disappointed.

Shit! I was told that for every stick you gift you get a halo. After a certain amount of sticks gifted and x amount of halo's, a stairway opens up for you to the universe. For the really good folk, there's an escalator right next to the steps. Guys that can't afford to gift but do so anyway, cannot use the escalators, but they are carried up the steps by a cigar cryer and "don't get it" type people... birdd is a carrier.

The good news is after 200 carries, the carrier's usually get it and are allowed back to start gifting and accumulating their own halo's.

Well, that's what I heard anyway.

I know that your intentions were good and this isn't some kind of "buy our way in" thing. I can just see how someone, especially newer folks who have no clue what this place is really about, could interpret it that way.

Maybe next time taking your disappointment to PM would be the better option?

I think your doing a great thing here, Brian. It's always great to see people having fun and throwing things at each other in the spirit of giving. I certainly hope you've taken my words in the spirit they were given. There are no hard feelings or disrespect from this end. The whole spectrum of your conduct and contributions here speaks for itself and is a good example for those newer guys to follow.

Party on, fellas. Sorry if I dampened the spirit a little.

Alan, I always take your words in the spirit in which they are given.

The point is, if someone wants to gift, no matter what type of gift, it should be taken as just that, a gift. If there are any ulterior motives, they will soon surface.

Brian

OK....I mentioned this last night but obviously it fell on deaf ears....

Can we please stop this mindless babel about this issue. This thread is supposed to be for us newer folk to send some bombs and have an overall 'good time'. Now all I can think of is some stupid post 2 pages ago. Please, I know I don't have much senority around here, but can we please cut the crap about who is right or wrong. I'm doing this to show thanks, not to recieve anything in return. If people don't have the means to do the same thats fine by me. But please, for the future, take your bitches, moans, groans, whines, and complaints to your own thread. If I'm out of line on this I don't care.

Well first off you guys are jerks to a lot of the new people. I have only read stuff on here for the past 2 weeks but I have seen you be rude jerks and run a few people off who were just trying to be friendly. Yes some of them deserved it like just joining a forum and try to sell stuff and hustle money the same a day but some were just trying to be friendly. So you guys deserve some shit if you can dish it out you should expect it back.

Jonsey tells me I can give people a cigar every week and that will “get me out of the newbie status that gets run out the door”?
Wow so generous! What a guy.

How is that generous and giving?
Maybe to you guys who are getting the free cigars.
You guys run new guys out of here for even joking about free cigars at the same time you are sending them PMs asking for cigars yea that’s the spirit of giving.

You some of you guys say it is more about giving to the great ones who have passed down the great knowledge.
This is about consuming cigars it is not great knowledge.
That is like a dog thinking he has great knowledge because he knows what kind of food he is getting by the sound of the can opener.
So maybe this is a practice to weed out any newbies who won’t brown nose the members before them? Yea, it is good to give some thanks to the people who keep a forum going but it is an Internet forum it is not a company that is supporting peoples livelihoods or a university giving valuable life supporting knowledge.
It is a forum talking about cigar consumption.
Some of you guy have been in the military too much and feel like you always need a bunch of squabbling brown noses under you or something.

I’m sure you guys are generous to each other, but I think you are whacked to think new members should run around and brown nose you to get accepted. This is an internet cigar forum not the army.

I’m not going to waste my time or cigars trying to make friends here.
If I get board I might drop by once and a while and give you shit your in your latest newbie bashing thread.

And sorry Lurch for “hijacking the tread” but this is the “newbie Mega Bomb II” and that’s what the subject is about.
I know you were scoring some brownie points on here you still can, just make some wiseass remarks and defend the senior members that will get you some points.

Wow....what a dumb-shit. I had to stop reading about half-way because I couldn't take the lack of intelligence anymore. Here's a piece of advice, if you want people to take you seriously, try writing in complete sentences and paragraphs. Although, in your case, I doubt it would've helped.

You figured all of this out from reading two weeks worth of threads? Wow! Let me ask you a question birdd, when you read a book do you just jump right into the middle of the book and read two pages and feel that you understand the story.
