If you have a Palio burl wood finish cutter, would you please tell me if you think it looks like real wood or more like the fake wood on car dashboards?

Real wood!... I love my burl wood Palio, it's small, light and surgically gets my caps off...life is great! :love:

I'm scouting this unit for some buddies across the pond and though I had never seen one, I knew I could get the straight dope here.

Anthony, I've been using the original finish unit and it is the sharpest cutter I've ever tried. Thanks, my friend!

It's beautiful and cuts the best of any cutter I've owned, but......from the manufacturer...

"The Burl Wood Palio is not made of wood, it is made of a state of the art engineering polymer that has the appearance of Burl Wood. The finish compares to fine wood interiors in luxury cars."

But don't let the fact that it's not real wood, prevent you from buying it.

When I look at the burlwood cutter, it never gives the impression of being "real" wood to me. I do think that the cutter looks very sweet and would prefer the burl over the carbon fiber or black. That is my favorite choice!

Thanks to everyone who gave me their opinion and impression. I guess it really comes down to personal sensitivity to the specific appearance of these things. I appreciate your frankness!

Wilkey, if you wann atalk to direct to someone at Palio, let me know. Both owners are very good friends and one I talk to regularly. The burlwood cutter is not real burlwood but is very impressive.
 
I can't comment on the wood, but the carbon fiber is carbon fake and looks as such. I would have ordered the reg. black plastic over the simulated if I had known.

But it is by far the BEST cutter I've ever used, my xikar is rendered useless.

Not to thread jack you Wilkey, but I am in the market for a good sharp cutter and I have considered both, Xikar and Palio. Is Xikar inferior? Or...is it just a matter of taste? Any suggestions?

C&G...you could lose a finger with that thing!
 
C&G, I have an Xicar, Palio and a Wenger SAK. The Xicar is the sharpest, you'll note that it has the most highly polished blades, but it has too many moving parts, small screws etc. It is also unwieldy in my opinion. My Palio came apart in two pieces in my hands. The SAK works best for me, especially when using the circumcision method of cutting a cigar. It of course has other uses, like opening your imported beer, cans of beans, and skinning the occasional harvested game.
