The stone crab's post on CF

There are lots of Dungeness crabs around here this time of year but never had a Stone Crab. Mmmmmmmm ....... fresh, sweet dungeness crab with a sour dough round and some garlic butter.

Funny you mentioned that David because I will be having some of those when I get out there in a couple of weeks.

As for stone crabs, living here in South Beach and the Florida Keys, I've never had to order stone crabs on line. But, if I was going to do so, I'd search out some fishmongers in the Keys. These guys are great:

Sweet...I ordered 8 lb's from these guys...and 5 lb's from Billy's....we'll see which is best!

Let us know how you make out! I'm curious about the size of the claws. Do you get that beautiful mustard sauce with them? 13lbs of crab is a lot, can they be frozen?

I picked them up from Key Fisheries and Billy's Stone Crabs.

Billy's had the large size while and Key had mediums on sale.

Both came with mustard sauce and I picked up 2 Key Lime pies from Billy's.

.........just got Key's in....NICE!!!
