The truth about tap water

This was proven about a decade ago too with NYC tap water coming out ahead of the bottled water for purity and taste.

Some people taste chocolate in their cigars. Some people can taste the difference in water. Go figure.

Doc.

When I was a kid, I drank from a mud puddle in the driveway because I'd seen the dog do it a million times. In college we'd play beer pong with cups that were several days old, in most of which something was starting to grow (the mold left an interesting flavor...). I guess that means I'm far from picky about what I drink. I do drink bottled water at work, but then again it is the only remotely potable water in the area...

Chicago water is the best imo, i've seen evidence of it winding up in expensive brand water bottles for years. Plus, tap water is good for your teeth. YMMV!

I had read long ago about Dasani and Aquafina just being purified muni water. Didn't know where from though. I can honestly taste a difference between those and, say, Zephyrhills/Dannon/Calistoga/Etc. Tap water here in Miami...well it has a distinct taste, and not necessarily a good one. I remember the same being true back in the Bay area, though NorCal can advise if this still is the case.

All in all...gotta agree with Doc...to each his own as such tastes are truly subjective. But I do always still get a kick out of people buying Dasani and Aquafina, somehow thinking they are getting pure water, freshly dripped from a glacier.

Speaking of which...I just remembered a commercial on t.v....think it was for 7-Up....had the dude out in the wilds, next to a spring and a bear comes along and basically takes a dump in the spring, with the guy then asking how sure "you" are about your "pure" spring water...

As a kid growing up, mom and dad's water came from a well on our property. It was hands down the best tasting H2O I've ever had.

The 'fridge we recently bought has a charcoal water filter in it so we get filtered, cold tap water from the door. That's as fancy as it gets around here.....

That's some High Quality...H2O

My grandparents had a well on their property too, and I absolutely loved that water. Naturally cool, crisp, you could taste some of the natural minerals...it was delicious.

I once looked at a store brand of bottled water, it stated "Product of New Jersey Municiple Water System".
I have a a water dispenser in the door of my refrigerator, with a filter, comes out cold and tastes just fine. I actually prefer the well water we drink at my in-laws in New Hampshire, least I know I am getting minerals in it.

At home I drink tap water but when I’m in the city I won’t. I don’t like that it’s treated with chlorine and ever since the cryptosporidium outbreak I just don’t trust it.

I don't think Aquafina is trying to dupe anyone. It clearly states on the bottle that the water undergoes reverse osmosis, which should be a pretty good indication that this is not spring water. It doesn't bother me, I feel that reverse osmosis is a fine way to purify and I trust it way more than a charcoal filter on a brita.

Pepsi and Coke make water in most if not all of their bottling plants.

While reverse osmosis is great at removing everything (good and bad) from water, it is also extreemly wasteful. Someone who has the real numbers can correct me, but I think something like two gallons of water go down the drain for every gallon bottled.

Personally, I can't stand the taste of reverse osmosis water. It has a chemical flavor to me.

Living in the country, I get my water from a well.
It 's good stuff. Tastes much better then city water.

We live on a limestone shale, So our water leaves a nice white film on everything, it is awful. However the yeast like it. :whistling:

I'm a fan of propel and powerade waters. We have a water cooler here, but I never use it. And I have a two gallon water jug in the fridge, but it's tap water.

My parents well water leaves a nice white film on everything, guess thats why my little yeasties always take off when I let them loose.

I lived in Florida for a while and I agree the water in the places I've been is warm and of poor taste quality IMHO. The Detroit water surely tastes better.

Our tapwater is so high in chlorine that it is undrinkable and cannot even be cooked with. We use a countertop multistage filter to render it potable.

When I drink bottled water, I'm not picky. Anything'll do. I tried that Fiji water once and it tasted like, well, water.
