Amen to that - I nearly lost all of my Grad School work a couple of weeks after graduation. I was backing everything up and about 25% of the way through the armature on my HD came loose and gouged the outside of the disks and I haven't been able to access it yet. I ve sent it to two rescue companies and they couldn't do anything, but that was two years ago. Pictures and documents lost.
Now I have an external HD that backs up EVERYTHING on an ongoing basis. 
I may have to go to NZ - I LIKE FREE BEER!
